Meta Introduces New AI Supervision Features for Teens and Parents

Meta has announced a new set of tools and initiatives aimed at helping teens and parents navigate the growing role of artificial intelligence in everyday life. The latest updates include expanded supervision insights, expert-designed conversation resources, and the launch of a dedicated advisory council focused on teen wellbeing.

New Insights for Parents Across Meta Platforms

Parents who use supervision tools on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger can now access a new Insights tab, allowing them to see the general topics their teens have asked Meta AI about over the past seven days.

Available both in-app and on the web, the feature is designed to give parents a better understanding of how teens are interacting with AI across Meta’s platforms.

Rather than displaying exact conversations, the tool highlights broad topic categories such as:

  • School
  • Entertainment
  • Lifestyle
  • Health and Wellbeing

Parents can also explore subcategories for a clearer picture of the types of questions being asked, while preserving teens’ privacy.

Age-Appropriate AI Responses and Safety Measures

Meta says AI responses for teens are designed to meet age-appropriate standards. In certain situations, Meta AI may decline to answer specific prompts or guide teens toward relevant support resources instead.

For more serious concerns involving sensitive topics such as suicide or self-harm, the company is also developing new parental alerts. These alerts would notify parents if a teen attempts to engage in certain high-risk conversations with AI.

Conversation Tools to Help Families Talk About AI

To encourage healthier communication at home, Meta is introducing new conversation starters created with expert input. These tools are intended to help parents discuss AI experiences with their teens in a supportive and non-judgmental way.

Launch of AI Wellbeing Expert Council

Meta also revealed its new AI Wellbeing Expert Council, a group of specialists who will provide ongoing advice on AI experiences designed for younger users.

The council includes experts in:

  • Youth safety
  • Mental health
  • Responsible AI development

They will work closely with Meta teams to help ensure future AI tools remain safe, supportive, and age-appropriate for teens.

Global Rollout Begins

The new supervision insights are currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Brazil, with a broader global rollout expected in the coming weeks.
