Drukair Boosts Singapore–Paro Flights to Strengthen Bhutan’s Global Connectivity

Drukair, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bhutan, is expanding its Singapore operations with an additional weekly service, enhancing travel access between Southeast Asia and the Himalayan nation. Starting 16 May 2026, flights between Singapore and Paro will increase from two to three times weekly, operating every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

The move marks a significant step in improving connectivity to Bhutan, particularly for long-haul travellers transiting through Singapore, one of the world’s most well-connected aviation hubs.

Expanded Schedule and Seasonal Adjustments

Ahead of the May rollout, Drukair will operate an interim schedule in April (subject to adjustments), with flights departing:

• Singapore → Paro: Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday
• Paro → Singapore: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday

From 16 May 2026 onwards, the revised regular schedule will take effect:

• Singapore → Paro: Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday
• Paro → Singapore: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday

The added frequency is expected to offer greater flexibility for travellers planning trips to Bhutan, whether for leisure, cultural exploration, or wellness retreats.

Singapore’s Role as a Key Gateway

Singapore continues to play a pivotal role in Bhutan’s tourism strategy, acting as a central transit hub for visitors from major markets such as Australia and North America. In 2025, Singapore Changi Airport recorded a record 69.98 million passenger movements, with strong growth from regions including North America.

Australia, now home to Bhutan’s largest overseas community of approximately 37,500 residents, is a key contributor to travel demand. With over 30 daily flights connecting Australia to Singapore via major airlines, the enhanced Drukair schedule improves accessibility for both the Bhutanese diaspora and international travellers.

Meanwhile, interest from North America is also on the rise, with visitor arrivals to Bhutan increasing significantly from both the United States and Canada in 2025. Singapore’s extensive network of non-stop and connecting flights makes it a convenient one-stop gateway for these travellers.

Supporting Mindful and Immersive Travel

The additional flight frequency aligns with Bhutan’s “High Value, Low Volume” tourism model, which prioritises sustainability and meaningful travel experiences over mass tourism.

With more flexible travel options, visitors can better embrace “slow travel” itineraries, spending time across key destinations such as Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha without rushing. The improved schedule also makes it easier for travellers to plan visits around Bhutan’s iconic tshechus (religious festivals), which follow specific lunar calendars.

Druk Asia’s Continued Role

Singapore-based Druk Asia, established in 2009 as Drukair’s local representative, continues to play a key role in promoting Bhutan tourism. Over the years, it has built a reputation for curating socially impactful and wellness-focused travel experiences.

In October 2024, the company further strengthened its commitment to Bhutan’s cultural preservation by being appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Royal Government of Bhutan as the official marketing representative for the Building Fund of the Museums of Bhutan.

Expanding Aviation Services Beyond Commercial Flights

In addition to increasing scheduled services, Drukair is also enhancing its premium and specialised aviation offerings.

The airline now offers private charter services via its Pilatus PC-24 jet, configured for up to eight passengers. Known for its ability to land on short and unpaved runways, the aircraft provides access to remote regions, including the emerging Gelephu Mindfulness City.

Drukair has also expanded its helicopter operations following a merger with Royal Bhutan Helicopter Services. Its fleet of Airbus H130 helicopters supports scenic tours, such as the famed Tiger’s Nest flyover, as well as emergency evacuations and luxury transfers.

To streamline travel planning, Druk Asia integrates these aviation services with tour bookings, allowing international visitors to arrange scenic transfers and domestic charters seamlessly.
