Formerly located only on Level 3 of West Mall, the revamped library now spans Levels 1, 2, and 3, stretching over 2,700 square metres. With nearly twice the number of seats available, the refreshed space invites the community to read, discover, and recharge in a calm, sensory-rich environment. Minister for Digital Development and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo, presided over the reopening ceremony this morning.

Inspired by Little Guilin, Powered by Sound

Drawing inspiration from Bukit Batok Town Park’s iconic Little Guilin, the redesigned library embraces nature’s tranquility through immersive sound and visual elements. This marks the National Library Board’s first use of sound as a core feature in enhancing reading and exploration.

At the heart of this experience is the SingLand Soundscape, an audio installation created in collaboration with Singapore Land Group. Featuring bespoke soundtracks by local sound artist Mervin Wong, the installation uses ambisonic field recordings captured around Bukit Batok. Patrons will encounter these multidirectional soundscapes as they move from Level 1 to Level 2, complemented by curated audio-visual materials from NLB’s collections that highlight shared memories of the neighbourhood.
