Richie Jen (任贤齐) Brings Nostalgia Filled Night to Singapore, Proves Singalong Classics and Earnestness Never Go Out of Style

Mandopop veteran Richie Jen (任贤齐) returned to Singapore over the weekend with his 《齐迹》 2026 concert, playing two nights at the Resorts World Ballroom in Sentosa. We caught the second and final show on Sunday, which transformed the Resorts World Sentosa venue into a massive karaoke session. For the thousands in attendance, the evening was a warm and familiar walk down memory lane with an old friend.

At 59 years old, Jen easily defies expectations. He does not look his age at all, still moving around the stage with an energetic spring in his step and effortlessly engaging the crowd throughout the night.

While he might not be a vocal powerhouse or a dancing diva, his earnest attitude and signature guy next door appeal more than make up for it. His strength has always been his folksy tunes and relatable charm, proving that his everyday man persona is exactly what his audience loves about him.

The musical lineup was packed with his signature hits as well as some of his most popular Mandopop covers.

When the familiar opening music of his all-time top hit, “心太软 (Too Soft-hearted)” echoed through the sound system, almost everyone in the audience started singing along, egged by an earnest Jen.

He expressed what a tremendous privilege it is to have fans so familiar with his music that he barely needs to sing at his own show. Jen then chimed in to deliver his defining anthem with the same gentle vulnerability that first propelled him to stardom.

Other monumental tracks that were performed included his originals like “The Sad Pacific (伤心太平洋)” and iconic covers like “Look Over Here Girl (对面的女孩看过来)”. These songs are not overly complex but rather straightforward and highly accessible, making them perfect for the massive live karaoke experience.

Jen also took time to perform refreshed acoustic arrangements of his folksy ballads, allowing his slightly raspy and comforting vocals to shine without heavy instrumental backing.

The audience interaction was one of the highlights of the night. His loyal fan club, consisting mostly of by now middle-aged ladies seated around the stage, created a welcoming and family like atmosphere. Many brought their family members along, including their kids and even grandkids. Jen spoke to the crowd not as a distant celebrity but almost like an approachable neighbour, joking about his previous visits to Singapore and how it was like before he was famous.

Whenever Jen encouraged the crowd to take over the chorus, thousands of voices blended perfectly together, often threatening to drown out the singer himself. Strangers happily shared memories of what these tracks meant to them during different phases of their lives, reinforcing a endearing sense of community.

Backed by solid organisation from GME International, Sunny Side Up, and FUN TOGETHER, the show struck a balance between professional polish and intimate nostalgia. Easy listening, heartfelt interactions, and timeless hits defined the night. It was a comforting reminder of why Richie Jen has remained a beloved figure in the Chinese music scene for decades, successfully reconnecting generations of fans with their youth.
