WhatsApp has rolled out a highly requested feature designed to make group chats more inclusive and easier to manage. The new Group Message History function allows admins and members to share recent messages with newly added participants, helping them quickly get up to speed without disrupting ongoing conversations.
With this update, when a new member joins a group chat, users will see an option to send recent messages, ranging from 25 to a maximum of 100 messages. This ensures newcomers receive relevant context without being overwhelmed, while the rest of the group remains aware of what has been shared.
Importantly, Group Message History maintains WhatsApp’s commitment to privacy. Like all personal messages on the platform, shared message history remains end-to-end encrypted. The feature eliminates the need for screenshots or manual message forwarding, offering a more seamless and secure way to onboard new members.
Sharing message history is optional and requires deliberate action. Group admins also have the ability to disable the setting entirely if preferred, though they will always retain the authority to share message history themselves.
For transparency, whenever message history is sent, the entire group is notified. The shared messages are clearly distinguished from regular chat messages and include visible timestamps and sender details, ensuring clarity for all participants.
