AirAsia X (AAX) Berhad is accelerating its global expansion strategy, marking a major milestone in its international growth journey by positioning Bahrain as a key strategic hub linking Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Australia.

The move signals AAX’s ambition to extend its medium- and long-haul network beyond Asia, reinforcing its role as a value-driven carrier connecting major global regions. Central to this plan is Bahrain’s development as AAX’s Middle East hub, following a Letter of Intent signed on 3 November 2025 between Capital A Berhad and Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications.
Strengthening Global Connectivity
Bahrain’s strategic geographic location, situated at the crossroads of Asia, Europe and the Middle East, makes it a natural gateway for expanded connectivity. Combined with its established aviation infrastructure, the kingdom is set to play a pivotal role in AAX’s hub-and-network model, facilitating greater flows of travellers, trade and tourism across continents.
By anchoring operations in Bahrain, AAX aims to enhance route efficiency and unlock new travel corridors, providing more seamless and affordable connections between Southeast Asia and destinations across the Gulf, Europe and beyond.
Expanding Beyond Southeast Asia
While AirAsia X has built a strong footprint in Asia-Pacific, the Bahrain initiative reflects a broader strategy to diversify its network with strategic hubs outside Southeast Asia. The airline plans to strengthen its long-haul operations through continued fleet upgrades, digital enhancements and strategic partnerships.
