Launching on 11 February, the Hello Kitty “Black Series” marks its Southeast Asia debut and the third release in Asia, following earlier launches in Japan and Korea.

A High-Art Reimagining of an Icon

The collection is a collaboration between Japanese underground lifestyle label ONE TODAY and Sanrio’s Hello Kitty. Conceived by Mikio Suzuki, Chief Design Officer at ONE TODAY, the series reimagines the iconic character through a more mature and contemporary lens.

Suzuki, a graduate of Tokyo Zokei University, has built a distinguished career in Japan’s advertising industry, holding senior roles in art direction, creative design and film. Since 2013, he has led collaborations with character IP licensors, transforming animated icons into fashion-forward and artistic expressions aimed at adult audiences.

With the “Black Series,” Suzuki presents Hello Kitty in a striking monochromatic form. The collection features sleek, all-black figurines adorned with bold motifs inspired by the themes of “Heart,” “Black,” and “Love.” The result is a refined reinterpretation that transcends traditional toy design, positioning the figurines as collectible art pieces for serious fans and design enthusiasts alike.

Minimalist Design, Premium Finish

Each figurine stands at 20cm tall and is crafted from premium PVC with a smooth matte finish. Emphasising silhouette and form over decorative detail, the tactile surface enhances the sculptural quality of the piece, reinforcing its sophisticated aesthetic.
