Chinese New Year at Tien Court, the award-winning Teochew restaurant at Copthorne King’s Hotel, is truly indulgent. From 30 January to 3 March 2026, their set menus feature premium seafood, giant abalone, and Teochew classics, making it an ideal spot for family gatherings that balance tradition with a touch of luxury.
I got to try their Auspicious Set Menu at 8+ per person. We began with the Prosperity Smoked Salmon Yu Sheng, a must-have at any Chinese New Year dinner. It was fresh, colourful, and vibrant, with a perfect balance of textures from crisp vegetables and fresh smoked salmon, all tied together with a light tangy dressing. Tossing it with everyone instantly set the festive mood.
Next was the Braised Seafood Broth with Assorted Seafood and Crab Meat. The broth was rich and comforting without being too heavy, and the crab meat was sweet and delicate. I loved how generous the seafood portions were, with every spoonful packed with crab, fish, and other premium ingredients.
The Signature South African Six-Head Abalone with Fish Maw and Black Moss in Oyster Sauce completely stole the show. The abalone was huge, tender, and perfectly cooked, while the fish maw added a silky, luxurious texture. The oyster sauce was savoury but not overpowering. This dish alone made the meal feel like a proper Chinese New Year celebration.
The Deep-Fried Soon Hock in Superior Soy Sauce was golden and crisp on the outside while staying tender and juicy inside. I was impressed that they included the fish liver, which is rarely served and shows the care taken in cooking the fish. It was mild in flavour and not fishy at all, and the meat stayed moist under the crispy coating.
The Roasted Duck with Dang Gui was fragrant with herbs and perfectly cooked, with succulent meat that was not overly oily.
The Teochew-style Baked Local Lobster with Fermented Bean and Garlic was another highlight. The lobster was meaty and naturally sweet, and the sauce added a fragrant, slightly salty kick that enhanced the shellfish without overpowering it.
The Wok-Fried Glutinous Rice with Dried Scallop, Chinese Sausage, and Black Truffle was rich and aromatic. Every mouthful was savoury and satisfying, with the black truffle adding a luxurious touch that elevated this classic dish.
Dessert was Double-Boiled Peach Gum, Snow Swallow, Red Date, and Glutinous Rice Ball served with Steamed Nian Gao and Peanut. It offered a sweet but light finish, comforting and nourishing, leaving the perfect note of warmth and good luck to end the festive feast.
The restaurant itself adds to the experience. The dining area is spacious and beautifully decorated, yet still feels intimate. Private rooms are available for a more personal gathering. The staff were proactive and friendly, patiently explaining each dish and its symbolism, which made the meal feel thoughtful and festive.
