[Movie Review] Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Premieres in Singapore with Voice Actor in Attendance and Immersive Fan Experience

Singapore’s anime community was treated to an unforgettable event as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle made its international premiere outside Japan at Shaw Theatres Lido on August 11.

The gala, organised by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures, drew throngs of enthusiastic fans, incuding many cosplayers dressed as their favourite characters, to celebrate the highly anticipated film.

The premiere is a milestone moment in Singapore for Demon Slayer fans globally as it also marks the first overseas red carpet event for the Infinity Castle movie.

Singapore fans were treated to a special appearance of Takahiro Sakurai, the voice actor behind Giyu Tomioka (the Water Hashira), who performed a live dub before the screening, a rare treat for attendees.

The whole cinema went quiet when Sakurai did his thing. The brief moment was electrifying, sending goosebumps down my spine, in witnessing the blurring of line between the real world and the anime world.

Screened in Japanese with English subtitles, the film delivered stunning animation and intense action sequences, staying true to the franchise’s reputation for visual excellence.

Despite starting slow in pacing, the film quickly transformed into a visual fest mid-way, featuring emotional depth and breathtaking battles which will satisfy fans and new audience alike.

Infinity Castle is the first of a trilogy concluding the Demon Slayer saga.

In Japan, it shattered box office records, earning 10 billion yen (S.67 million) in just eight days, outpacing its predecessor, Mugen Train, which previously held the title of Japan’s highest-grossing anime film.

Since its manga debut in 2016, Demon Slayer has become a cultural phenomenon, with its anime adaptation and films breaking records and winning hearts globally. The story of Tanjiro Kamado’s quest to save his sister Nezuko and defeat the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji continues to resonate, blending action, emotion, and stunning artistry.

The manga series have sold over 220 million manga copies worldwide and the anime series is still streaming on almost all major streaming platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is now screening in Singapore cinemas. Go catch it!

Beyond the premiere, fans can immerse themselves in the world of Demon Slayer at Shaw Urban Plaza, where an Infinity Castle-themed installation runs until August 28.

The exhibit recreates the surreal, gravity-defying architecture of the castle, complete with infinity mirrors, character standees, and a giant inflatable Tanjiro. An interactive PlayStation 5 gaming zone adds to the fun.
