Garmin Descent S1 Smart Buoy to Revolutionize Dive Safety and Communication

Garmin Singapore has launched the Descent S1 Buoy, a groundbreaking innovation in dive safety that enhances underwater communication and gives both divers and surface crews greater peace of mind. As the latest addition to Garmin’s dive lineup, the Descent S1 uses advanced sonar and smart connectivity to transform how divers navigate, communicate, and stay safe below the surface.

Smart Technology for Safer Dives

At the heart of the Descent S1 Buoy is Garmin’s SubWave sonar networking, which enables seamless communication with compatible Descent dive computers. Up to eight divers can be tracked and monitored simultaneously, with preset messages exchanged between divers and surface crew. This two-way communication system is a game changer, especially in challenging underwater environments.

Key features include:

  • Find My Buoy: Divers can see both distance and direction to the buoy—whether anchored, tethered, or drifting—making it easier to return to the surface safely.
  • Diver-to-Surface Messaging: Divers can inform surface crews about their location, intentions, remaining decompression time, or if they need to ascend early.
  • Extended Diver-to-Diver Messaging: Divers using compatible Descent computers can send messages to each other from up to 100 meters away, now with extended range thanks to the buoy.
  • Post-Dive Heatmaps: View detailed underwater activity maps using the Garmin Dive app, offering insights into dive paths and areas explored.

Smarter Monitoring from the Surface

For topside crews, the Descent S1 Buoy acts as a high-tech command center:

  • Real-Time Diver Monitoring: Track each diver’s tank pressure, depth, and location with real-time updates. Alerts notify crews when a diver’s tank is low.
  • Surface-to-Diver Messaging: Send important instructions or diver recalls underwater, even mid-dive.
  • Diver Tracking: Maintain awareness of each diver’s position within a 100-meter range via the sonar network.

Built to Withstand the Deep

Weighing just 981g, the Descent S1 Buoy is compact, rugged, and rated IPX8 water-resistant up to 10 meters. It runs on a rechargeable lithium battery with up to 15 hours of usage, making it ideal for weekend dive adventures. With Wi-Fi connectivity up to 60 meters, it syncs effortlessly with the Garmin Dive app for added functionality and convenience.

Availability and Pricing

The Garmin Descent S1 Buoy is now available for SGD $3,419 at Garmin Brand Stores, Lazada, Shopee, Garmin Online Store, Takashimaya, and select authorized retailers.
