Grand Hyatt Singapore has recently reopened its doors after a comprehensive multi-year transformation, unveiling an array of new and revitalised dining experiences. At the forefront of these offerings is StraitsKitchen, a Halal-certified buffet restaurant that has been a favourite among locals and visitors alike since its initial opening in 2004.
Known for its authentic Singapore hawker fares and local cuisines, StraitsKitchen has long been my favourite go-to place to host foreign Muslim visitors to sample local food in a more comfortable and elevated setting, with food prepared on the spot as you order them from the respective buffet stations.
The restaurant offers a diverse range of dishes that showcase the rich culinary traditions of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Nonya cuisine. Led by Chef de Cuisine Nelson Wong, who brings over 25 years of experience in crafting local flavours, StraitsKitchen ensures that each dish remains true to its authentic roots.
We were invited for a dinner tasting and these were some of the items we savoured:
With its recent reopening on 10 July 2024, StraitsKitchen has introduced a refreshed menu that includes premium specials such as Fish Head Curry, Sustainable Salted Egg Prawns, and BBQ Roaring Forties Lamb. The latter is amazing and we would recommend ordering it from the barbecue station.
Guests can also enjoy a new fresh juice bar featuring a selection of tropical flavours, enhancing the buffet experience. Desserts and beverages have been thoughtfully curated to reflect Singapore’s cultural heritage, offering well-loved classics like sago gula melaka, goreng pisang, min jiang kueh, and bubur terigu.
Verdict?
StraitsKitchen is as good as we remember it and we are delighted that it is back in business!
In addition to StraitsKitchen, the Grand Hyatt Singapore has also reopened BRIX, a live entertainment venue known for its dynamic performances and diverse beverage offerings. The Shop is also open now, bringing authentic Italian comfort food and a curated selection of gourmet items, respectively:
Looking ahead, the culinary lineup at Grand Hyatt Singapore will be further elevated with the opening of Le Pristine Singapore by Michelin-starred Chef Sergio Herman and the revamped Martini Bar in October 2024.
