The #RaiseForRare campaign returns for its second edition, aiming to raise funds and awareness for patients battling rare diseases. Organized by the Rare Disease Fund (RDF), the campaign runs until March 20, 2024, coinciding with Rare Disease Day on February 29, this leap year, which holds special significance.
Rare diseases affect a significant number of individuals, with up to 3,000 people diagnosed in Singapore alone, including approximately 700 children. Managed by the KKH Health Fund (KKHHF) and supported by the Ministry of Health, RDF is dedicated to easing the financial burden of costly medications for affected families. Despite the prevalence of rare diseases, effective treatments are limited, with only five percent having viable solutions.
#LightUpforRare: A Global Illumination
This year, RDF joins forces with the Rare Disease Society Singapore and the Genetics Service at KKH to participate in #LightUpforRare, a global landmark illumination initiative led by Rare Voices Australia. Eight prominent Singaporean landmarks, including Gardens by the Bay and the Singapore Flyer, will be bathed in blue light to honor the millions of individuals worldwide affected by rare diseases and their families.
How You Can Help
Members of the public are encouraged to show their support for rare disease patients through various avenues. Until March 20, individuals can set up fundraising campaigns on Giving.sg for the Rare Disease Fund. Additionally, they can raise awareness on social media by using the #RaiseForRare Instagram filter and stickers. By sharing words of encouragement and motivation for those affected by rare diseases, participants can contribute to spreading awareness and support for this important cause.
