National CARECarnival and Conference Launches with a Focus on Empowering Caregivers

In a groundbreaking initiative, the first-ever National CARECarnival and Conference commenced today, marking a significant milestone in the support and empowerment of caregivers across Singapore. Organized by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), CaringSG, National Council of Social Service, and SG Enable, this month-long event is designed to raise awareness, celebrate caregivers, and provide essential resources to enhance caregiver support.

National CAREConference: A Gathering of Care Professionals and Advocates

The National CAREConference, attended by over 400 care professionals, caregiver advocates, and caregivers, kicked off the month-long series of events. The conference focused on highlighting the need for an integrated ecosystem of caregiver support, sharing best practices from both local and international contexts, and equipping participants with valuable resources and information on caregiving initiatives.

New Resources Unveiled for Strengthening Caregiver Support

During the conference, the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) and SG Enable launched three innovative resources aimed at enhancing and strengthening support for caregivers:

  1. Learning Guidebook (for Caregivers) (by AIC and SG Enable):
    • Developed to complement caregivers’ learning journeys, this guidebook offers tips on essential knowledge and skills for caring for seniors, persons living with mental health conditions, and persons with disabilities.
    • Featuring real-life stories of family caregivers, the guidebook emphasizes the crucial skills needed to support both caregivers and their loved ones.
    • Examples of common caregiving situations are provided, along with relevant resources, such as applying for the Caregivers Training Grant (CTG).
  2. Bite-sized Infographics and Video Series on Caregiving (by AIC and SG Enable):
    • These resources, available on the organizations’ websites, address common caregiving challenges like burnout and self-care.
    • The video series shares the stories of two families navigating their caregiving journeys, offering insights and encouragement to caregivers.
  3. Caregiver Learning Roadmap (by SG Enable):
    • Comprising 28 skills across five caregiving areas, this roadmap aids caregivers of persons with disabilities in identifying and obtaining knowledge and skills at different stages of their caregiving journey.
    • Aligned with Recommendation 13 of the Enabling Masterplan 2030, the roadmap supports caregivers in planning for the future.

Heartland CARECarnivals: Celebrating and Empowering Caregivers in Communities

Following the conference, three CARECarnivals are set to take place in November across different heartland communities in Singapore. These events aim to raise societal awareness on caregiving, celebrate the invaluable contributions of caregivers, and empower them with resources, training, and support services. Featuring talks, caregiving resource booths, and an exhibition of caregiver stories, these carnivals provide caregivers with a platform for networking and mutual support.

  • CARECarnival at Enabling Village (11 November)
  • CARECarnival at Kampung Admiralty (18 November)
  • CARECarnival at Heartbeat@Bedok (25 November)

Stay tuned as Singapore comes together to celebrate, empower, and support caregivers throughout this month-long National CARECarnival and Conference.
