Earlier in October, the National Museum of Singapore (NMS) invited Singaporeans to join in the celebration of its 136th birthday with a delightful offering of a mystery flavour NMS sorbet.

Held at the Level 2 Glass Atrium, the NMS Sorbet Giveaway event took place on Saturday, 7 October and Sunday, 8 October 2023. Visitors were welcome to indulge in this special treat from 1pm to 3pm and 4pm to 6pm. The sorbet giveaway was available on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last.

Mystery Flavour Inspired by Natural History

The NMS sorbet is inspired by the ongoing exhibition, “Now Boarding: Experiencing Singapore through Travel, 1800s – 2000s,” specifically the food and beverage section.

Working closely with Kind Kones, the National Museum crafted a vegan sorbet that features a ‘mystery flavour’ derived from one of the plants showcased in its renowned William Farquhar Collection of Natural History Drawings. This collaboration combines culture, history, and a refreshing culinary experience.

Visitors were encouraged to participate in a guessing game – if you can correctly identify the ‘mystery flavour,’ you might be one of the five lucky winners to receive a $20 gift card, courtesy of Kind Kones.

The event was not just about free ice-cream samples and mystery flavours; it was also an opportunity for visitors to embark on a captivating journey through 1980s Singapore. The museum featured a travel-themed pop-up room and offered an immersive audio tour that delves into the rich history and iconic tourist attractions that define Singapore.

Don’t forget to explore the “Now Boarding: Experiencing Singapore through Travel, 1800s-2000s” exhibition, where you can rediscover the evolution of Singapore as a travel destination.
