[Review] A Classic French Gastronomic Journey at HENRI Wine Bistro and Bakery at Far East Square

HENRI is a French wine bistro and bakery, nestled in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District within Far East Square, offering a fusion of French-inspired food and wines. This dual-concept establishment sets itself apart with a commitment to crafting almost everything from scratch, from freshly baked bread to roasted coffee beans.

The brand first started in 2013 with a bakery cafe at Keong Saik, named Bread & Hearth. Today, it has since expanded to become one of the leading artisan bread suppliers in Singapore, with a wholesale business unit, Sourdough Factory.

The kitchen at HENRI is led by Chef Owner Henry Ng and he seeks to present an array of classic French dishes and contemporary interpretations. Other than good food and coffee, the restaurant also boasts an extensive wine cellar with 50 different wine labels and up to 800 bottles, elevating the dining experience to a complete culinary journey.

We were invited for a dinner tasting and these were the items we sampled:

HENRI is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner services, with respective accompanying menus. Two-course and 3-course set lunch are available for $9 and $35 per pax, while 3-course set dinner is available at $48 per pax. These are pretty reasonable prices for a restaurant located in the CBD area.

The dinner menu that we sampled showcased a mix of the traditions and comforts of French-European dishes. Standout dishes include the classic duck confit, prepared the traditional way and duck rilette. The pairing of these dishes with carefully selected wines also enhances the dining experience, elevating the presented flavours.

Chef Henry has stuck to the fundamentals and did not try to do anything too crazy or contemporary. If you are good at what you do, you do not need to add in more bells and whistles. For those who like classic, traditional French food, paired with a good selection of wines and homemade bread, HENRI would be your cup of tea.
