UNIQLO announces RE.UNIQLO Studio at its Orchard Central Global Flagship Store. The studio is part of the RE.UNIQLO programme, which contributes towards a circular economy through 4Rs – Repair, Remake, Reuse and Recycle. The company aims to keep UNIQLO items in use longer by actively helping you extend the life cycle of your well-loved UNIQLO clothing.
First piloted at the UNIQLO store at 51 @ Ang Mo Kio in March 2022, the RE.UNIQLO Studio continues to offer easy access to the sustainable practice of clothes repair, and enable you to give your UNIQLO apparels a new lease of life with its new second location.
The Studio offers daily on-site repairs which includes replacing fallen buttons, mending split seams, as well as patching torn pockets, loose hems and broken belt loops, at SGD5 each. Additionally, the Studio also looks to organise engaging talks and workshops to introduce the value of repair.
The UNIQLO staff who are supporting the repair service, will undergo training with Haute Alteration Initiative, winner of the 2012 President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award whose aim is to equip marginalised women with garment alteration and repair skills so that they can attain an adequate source of income and lead a better quality of life.
The RE.UNIQLO Studio is part of the new Custom Corner on level 3 of the Orchard Central Global Flagship store, which provides in-store customisation services including the popular UTme! Customisation printing service and a new embroidery service to personalise their LifeWear. This enables you to play up your creativity to remake pre-loved UNIQLO clothes into brand new items.
International Repair Day
In conjunction with International Repair Day, which takes place every third Saturday in October, UNIQLO has prepared a lineup of programmes to inspire all to think green on 15 October 2022.
On this day, UNIQLO will be organising a talk on the value of repair, followed by a Basic Hand-sewing Repair Techniques Workshop, in partnership with Haute Alteration Initiative. You can learn how to mend broken seams, holes and fallen buttons of pre-loved apparels across three 1-hour sessions, which will take place at Level 2 of UNIQLO’s Orchard Central Global Flagship store at 1pm, 2.30pm and 4pm.
