Honest Review of an Air Purifier (COSMO PRIME) - Alvinology

Honest Review of an Air Purifier (COSMO PRIME)

Looking to get an air purifier? With so many options around, it can be very easy to get trapped in decision paralysis. This article on 12 Best Air Purifiers to Buy in Singapore can be a useful starting point.

Here we check out the Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier, described by @bestinsingaporeofficial  as the “best overall purifier for most users”.

Very fast same day delivery

The Cosmo website promises same day delivery, but boy, was I surprised when it came in less than three hours after I ordered it!

Simple to set-up, use of modern HEPA filter

The instruction manual was very easy to follow. Before using, you just have to remove the back cover so as to get to the HEPA filter inside. The HEPA filter is wrapped in clear plastic. Remove the wrapping, place everything back in place, plug in the switch and the purifier is ready for use.

What’s HEPA filter?

HEPA stands for “high-efficiency particulate air”, and HEPA filters can stop 99.97% of all air pollutants such as haze, dust and germs. It can also absorb bad odours with its activated carbon layer.

Easy-to-use user interface

The touch screen contributes to the air purifier’s minimalistic aesthetics.

The screen also shows the current air quality for easy monitoring.

You can also control it using your mobile phone by downloading its “Smart Life” app.

Very quiet

At a noise level of 20dB, Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier is also one of the quietest in the market. Perfect for light sleepers and people sensitive to noise.

However, note that 20dB does not apply to the medium and high settings, which can be quite loud. That said, I believe the medium or high setting would only be needed if you stay near the ground level where smoke from the burning of offerings during the Hungry Ghost Festival may waft into your home, you smoke indoors, or if the haze from neighboring forest fires blows over again. In other words, for daily living needs, the 20dB mode would be more than sufficient.

The iffy frill- anion function

Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier has an Anion Mode which “releases healthy anions into the surroundings”, as stated on their website. Sure, while anions, also known as negative ions, have proven positive benefits for health, it is unlikely that the amount of anions generated by the air purifier would have any significant effect.

To reap the health benefits of anions, you will be better off getting it in nature, where anions are abundant, such as around waterfalls, on the ocean surf, at the beach and in mountains and forests.

Sleep mode option: no display lights + very quiet

Compared to some other machines where lights from the display screen cannot be switched off completely, Sleepers who prefer total darkness, peace and quiet will be pleased with Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier’s “Sleep mode” option. Sleep in peace while the air purifier works its magic, without annoying lights or sound to remind you of its presence.

Other notes

An air purifier is an investment into the better health of loved ones, which is priceless. That said, we would want to know how much the investment is.

While doing your research on which air purifier to get, apart from the upfront cost of the machine, remember to factor in the cost of the replacement filter. For example, the Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier HEPA filter costs $130, and it is recommended to change every 12-18 months, depending on air quality and usage.

Cosmo Prime® Air Purifier currently has a 20-Day free trial. You can check it out at their website.

  1. I have one for a month, it always says the air quality is amazing, no changes, day and night. I used two air quality sensors and as expected they show worst/bad air quality during the night and better quality during the day with the windows and doors open, Cosmo says always everything is perfect. So either Cosmo sensor is correct and I don’t need a air purifier to start with, or it is wrong and this is just a glorified fan with a filter that does nothing more than catch dust. Both options seems quite bad…

    1. thank for your user experience.i was considering this model until your comment show up. to my amaze it’s impossible for a place be always amazing, unless 24hrs ac on with all door windows closed
