Malaysian Raj’s Banana Leaf Restaurant workers filmed washing dishes in the gutter, offering free dinner

A video has circulated online on May 28, 2018 showing restaurant workers washing plates in the outdoors in yellow-coloured, dirty water. According to social media posts, the restaurant is Raj’s Banana Leaf in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, specifically their Bangsar Baru branch.

Watch the video below:

In the video posted by netizen Raajiv DeNario, he includes an expletive aimed at the restaurant for the way they allegedly handled their dishes. It can be seen that the dishes are washed on the ground from an unknown but obviously dirty source of water.

Raj’s Banana Leaf responds

The restaurant, which has several branches, has published the following announcement on their Facebook page, admitting that the video is at one of their restaurants.

The full text reads,

Dear customers,
We would like to apologise for an unfortunate incident by our newly recruited staffs at our Bangsar outlet recently. This has never happened before, and should not have had happened. We also want to assure you that Raj’s Banana Leaf consistently passes the health inspections conducted regularly.

We are very sorry by the regrettable actions by our new staffs and understand that this is not acceptable. We will continue to monitor our kitchen attentively and carefully, as hygiene and cleanliness are our top priority. Strict actions have been taken against these staffs and we would also like to ensure you that it will not happen again.

We truly understand your concerns. However I hope you will still give us a chance to serve you in the future. Please come back for a complementary “Buka Puasa” dinner at Raj’s Banana Leaf BANGSAR outlet only from 7.30pm-9.30pm on 31-05-2018 (Thursday) and feel free to personally get in touch with me if you have further concerns.

We very much appreciate your patronage, and again, we are sincerely sorry for what had happened and ensure this would never happen again. Thank you very much.

According to the post above, it is the fault of their “new staff,” and happened only at their Bangsar Baru branch. They insisted that they regularly pass inspections.

They ensured the public that the staff in the video have been dealt with and that this sort of thing will not happen again.

To placate the angry public, they have offered free dinner for diners from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on May 31, Thursday.

Will you be going to their free dinner after watching that video? Let us know in the comments!

Read about this refrigerator sold online that may be dirtier than Raj’s Banana Leaf Restaurant’s technique of washing dishes.
