Games of Thrones, one of Twitter’s top 10 trends in 2016

Every Sunday night, fans of HBO’s Game Of Thrones (@GameOfThrones) come together on Twitter to talk about the crazy plot twists, the characters’ latest shocking actions, to share their own memes and gifs, and to live Tweet with fellow fans.

Each #GameOfThrones season inspires millions of Tweets.

Game of Thrones was the most Tweeted about TV show of 2016 and was one of the Top 10 trends of 2016 on Twitter – the only TV show to make the list.

There have been 13.8 million Tweets about Game of Thrones in 2017 and 21 June was the most Tweeted day this year, when the second trailer was released. The most Tweeted about Game of Thrones season was season 6 (2016).

The most Tweeted about Game of Thrones episodes of all time are:

1. The Winds of Winter (Jun 26, 2016)
2. The Red Woman (Apr 24, 2016)
3. Battle of the Bastards (Jun 19, 2016)
4. Mother’s Mercy (Jun 14, 2015)
5. Home (May 01, 2016)

These are the top 10 trending emojis when Tweeting about Game of Thrones:

The most Tweeted about Game of Thrones characters from season 6:

2. Daenerys Targaryen
3. Sansa Stark
4. Arya Stark

And these were the most Tweeted hashtags from season 6:

For fans who still haven’t watched the premiere and are nervous about spoilers on Twitter, there’s a new feature on Twitter which allows users to mute words in their timelines.
