River Safari’s annual Safari Boo is back again for the third year and they will be celebrating all things aliens and monsters for trick-or-treat.

Yesterday evening, I brought my son Asher down for the opening night, dressed as a LEGO Nexo Knight. Asher had a great time making friends with other kids in costumes, playing games, interacting with the costumed talents, watching the performances and of course, collecting treats.

If you are new to Safari Boo, the event adopts a ‘merry-not-scary’ approach and it’s a fun and colourful children’s Halloween event suitable for all ages.

Safari Boo 2016 features two all-new shows: Monster Boo! and Mermaid Mania. In the interactive Monster Boo!, kids can join forces with monsters, aliens and their animal friends such as the slithery python, scaly iguana and mischievous pelican in their battle against the evil Doctor V.

Asher loves this segment and told me that it was his favourite activity for the night.

Mermaid Mania features a choreographed underwater musical performance by mermaids. Be mesmerised by the beauty and grace of the mermaids of myth as they swim amongst their real-life counterparts – the manatees.

This was my favourite segment as I found the performance really beautiful and I have not seen anything like this before. The performers look like real mermaids in the aquarium, particularly when they brush pass the manatees. You have to see this if you are at Safari Boo!

For the little ones, there are also plenty of things to do at the activity booths. Asher got to solve the mysteries of real-life aliens—invasive animal species—which do not belong and why they shouldn’t be kept as illegal pets.

Kids can also try blending in with the new alien and monster inhabitants with face painting and other craft activities. We skipped this as the queue was long and Asher do not like getting himself ‘dirtied’, but I saw some kids with their face painted by the professionals and they look pretty fun.

Safari Boo offers plenty of photo opportunities such as mascot meet and greets with alien characters, a giant crashed alien spaceship and animal appearances.

Asher enthusiastically took photos with lots of the alien characters while collecting his treats.
