EPSON celebrates 20th Anniversary of Micro Piezo Technology with launch of seven L-series printer models in Singapore

Last Friday (1 Mar 2013), Epson introduced its L-series printers in Singapore at The Gig, St James Power Station. Sporting seven models, this new series helps customers reduce operating costs with the world’s lowest printing cost of any printer using genuine Epson ink bottles supplies.

I was there to witness the launch:

Why so much fanfare over a printer launch?

Well, the L-series printer models designed to empower users to print freely without worrying about running costs, productivity and warranty issues. They also provide corporate users the opportunity to switch from using laser or dot matrix printers to the highly affordable L-series ink tank system printers.

“Our ultra-reliable Micro Piezo print head technology allowed us to create the Epson L-series ink tank system printers to meet our customers’ demands for ultra-low cost and high volume printing,” said Endo Koichi, Managing Director of Epson Southeast Asia and one of the engineers who developed Epson’s Micro Piezo print head.

Epson L355 & L550 ink tank system printers – Further enhancing connectivity in the office, the Epson L355 and L550 ink tank system printers facilitate workgroup sharing with WiFi and Ethernet connectivity respectively, on top of the USB 2.0 connectivity offered in the L-series printers. Both the L355 and L550 also offer iPrint, making it simple for users to print and scan to and from compatible mobile devices without having to connect software, drivers or cables. Finally, the L550 also comes with an integrated fax and auto document feeder (ADF) to provide for a hassle-free printing without needing to reload documents frequently.

Epson L800 photograph ink tank system printer – Catering to photo enthusiasts and SMB users, the L800 single function ink tank system printer promises to deliver high quality printouts with greater cost savings. The L800 helps users save time by offering efficient print speeds of 11 seconds for black and colour in 4R draft mode.

It is hard to get consumers excited about printers as they are deemed more as a peripheral IT product than as a standalone.

For their launch campaign, Epson Singapore came up with a series of fun web video featuring the fictional “Kiam Family” to educate Singaporeans on only buying stuff that we will use.

I was impressed when I saw the videos at the launch (sans for the poor audio quality of the recorded dialogue).

There is a simple, singular marketing message of “Then Why Buy?” and it brings out the top selling proposition of the L-series printer which is low cost printing compared to other brands.
