Launch of LG Optimus G in Singapore

The highly anticipated LG Optimus G smartphone was launched in Singapore on 31 Jan 2013 at Jubilee Hall, Gardens by the Bay. I was among the lucky few invited by LG Electronics Singapore to witness the launch.

Touted as one of its most feature-rich smartphone, the LG Optimus G has been making waves in Korea, Japan, United States and Canada. This flagship smartphone will be available in Singapore from 2nd February 2013 at Starhub, M1 and Singtel stores. Pre-order is also available via Starhub and M1.

How is the LG Optimus G different from other smartphones in the market?

Well, the Optimus G offers LG’s unique User Experience (UX) and is encased in a sleek design with signature Crystal Reflection finish.

Highlights include:

– a powerful quad-core CPU, Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, together with LTE capabilities and 2GB RAM to deliver blazing fast data transfer speeds
– new high density battery from LG Chem which has a longer life of 800 charge cycles
– ultra high-resolution 13MP camera which can even create extra-large prints
– a “Cheese Shutter” that takes photo with voice activation command just by saying cheese, kimchi, smile or LG

Snazzy UX features include:

QSlide Function that can overlay two different screens simultaneously on one display, allowing users to do two things at once, such as send a text message or search the web while also watching a video;

Live Zooming enhances the video-watching experience as users can zoom in up to five times while the video is being played;

Dual Screen Dual Play enables mirroring of displays between the smartphone nad a TV and also has the ability to display different content on each screen wirelessly. For example, a slide presentation can be displayed on the TV while the Optimus G shows the accompanying speaking notes;
QuickMemo allows users to write, draw or jot a memo with your finers directly on the captured screen for sharing instantly with others as an attachment or a URL. The QuickMemo can also be used as an overlay feature – like jotting down a number using the QuickMemo and directly dialling the number while the number is on the top layer.

I find the QSlide + QuickMemo functions particularly impressive when used together. With the Optimus G, one no longer need to go hunting for a pen and paper to scribble down a phone number. Just write it on your smartphone and dial straight!

To the lay consumer like me, LG phones give the general impression of more style and design over hardware. Optimus G seeks to change this perception by marrying design with solid hardware. This will give LG a flagship smartphone to compete with the respective flagship phones of the leading smartphone brands like Apple and Samsung, not just in design, but hardware specifications too.

In conjunction with the launch of Optimus G, LG Electronics Singapore is embarking on a campaign, ‘Change for Good’, to encourage and empower Singaporeans to make positive changes in their lives. A microsite, www.changeforgood.sg, is available for Singaporeans to make their pledges and connect with one another through the various social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Google+. A common hashtag (#ChangeForGood) allows users to view and add to the campaign’s movement, making it a socially immersive campaign.

Ready for change to Optimus G?

My iPhone 4S just got stolen a day after I attended the launch of the Optimus G. I have been thinking of switching to Android, seeing that it is fast overtaking iOS in global marketshare as the mobile platform of choice. Maybe this is a good time for me to “Change For Good” and switch to an Optimus G running on Android? 🙂
