New Singapore Low-Cost Carrier Scoot launched its Worldwide Inaugural Flight from Singapore to Sydney

Singapore low-cost carrier, Scoot, launched its worldwide inaugural flight last night from Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2, flying into Sydney Airport this morning.

Alvinology was one of the privileged few on board this historical flight, together with the cast of The Noose and other media.

I arrived at Changi Airport early, with my wife, baby son, parents and parents-in-law all present to send me off. If you are wondering why there was such a grand sendoff for a short 4D3N trip; the elders are there to play with my baby son. I was not the centre of attention. Nonetheless, it’s great to have my wife and son seeing me off. I miss them the most when I am traveling.

At the boarding gate, there were some quick speeches by the CEO of Scoot, Campbell Wilson and Guest-of-Honour, Choi Shing Kwok, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport on the growth and importance of low-cost carrier in Asia and Singapore.

There was a slight delight in the flight departure timing due to technical issues. The staff and crew from Scoot did the best they could to salvage a tricky situation, rolling out oreo cookies and milk, among other measures to pacify restless passengers.

The CEO actually went about row by row to toast and apologise to every passenger for the delay once the plane took off. A very nice, humble gesture.

Otherwise, the inaugural flight went smoothly without a glitch.

I loved the spacious seats in Scoot compared to other budget airlines – so much so I was able to sleep right from the point the plane took off in Singapore to half an hour before landing in Sydney! Shiok!

I am happy with the optional frills as well. Prices for items like food, rented iPad and blankets are stated upfront. I appreciate these items being pushed as optional add-ons to keep ticket prices low.

We landed in Sydney safe and sound. I was pretty well-rested and ready for the day’s programs. At the airport, I was very happy to see a familiar face –Duglass, the very lovable guide during my previous trip to Sydney with HTC:

Stay tuned to this blog for more updates on my stay in Sydney, New South Wales. With every visit, I learn something new about this cosmopolitan city. 🙂
