On Saturday (2 July), I attended the official launch of Shine Youth Festival at Scape together with a group of omy.sg bloggers and photo enthusiasts.
omy.sg had two related activities in conjunction with Shine – “Kit Kat’s Yer Big Break Blog Challenge” and “Getting Up Close and Personal with Lumix at the Mascot Parade”.
I got to trail the mascot parade for a short distance, got some free Kit Kats and Panasonic photo prints. Most important of all, I got a photo taken with Yam Ah Mee!
He is a very jovial chap with no airs at all, obliging with anyone who came forward to snap a photo with him. Obviously, he was the star attraction of the day.
“Since when has being a civil servant been so cool!” I exclaimed to my colleague, Janet who nodded her head in agreement.

“Initiated in 2005, SHINE Youth Festival is a platform for youths between the age of 15 and 35 to indulge in their passion. The initiative celebrates youths’ creativity and dynamism and encourages them to use SHINE Youth Festival as the stage to demonstrate their energy and grow their skills and talents.
Organised by the National Youth Council, steered by a committee made up of representatives from youth organisations and executed by a Youth Organising Committee consisting of volunteers, the vibrant and colourful SHINE Youth Festival is held in the designated Youth Month in July. SHINE Youth Festival features an exciting line up of events and activities is presented by its 4 key marquee partners: Mascot Parade, O School, Singapore Street Festival and the Singapore Management University.”
