I am always a sucker for retro stuff… Especially cheesy old love songs and stories.
I heard this song “Tell Laura I Love Her” at a café a few days ago. Somehow, I feel all mushy listening to it…. So here’s the lyrics, it’s a sad song with a sad, but loving story to tell:
Tell Laura I Love Her – Ray Peterson
Laura and Tommy were lovers
He wanted to give her everything
Flowers, presents and most of all, a wedding ring
He saw a sign for a stock car race
A thousand dollar prize it read
He couldn’t get Laura on the phone
So to her mother Tommy saidTell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura I may be late
I’ve something to do, that cannot waitHe drove his car to the racing grounds
He was the youngest driver there
The crowed roared as they started the race
‘Round the track they drove at a deadly pace
No one knows what happened that day
How his car overturned in flames
But as they pulled him from the twisted wreck
With his dying breath, they heard him sayTell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura not to cry
My love for her will never dieAnd in the chapel where Laura prays
For Tommy who passed away
It was just for Laura he lived and died
Alone in the chapel she can hear him cryTell Laura I love her, tell Laura I need her
Tell Laura not to cry
My love for her will never die
Tell Laura I love her…..
The song tells the tragic story of a teenage boy who was desperately in love with a girl named Laura. Although they were only teenagers, he wanted to marry her. The boy entered a car race, planning to use the prize money to buy Laura a wedding ring if he wins. However, his car crashed and the boy was killed.
I know it is a damn typical storyline lah.
But I am still moved by it lor… that’s how much of a sucker I am for such stuff. 🙂
