Singapore Oceanarium is inviting visitors to discover the fascinating world of sharks through Ocean in Focus: Apex Predators, a new guided behind the scenes experience launching in conjunction with World Shark Awareness Day. The 60-minute programme offers guests an opportunity to learn about the evolution, biology and conservation of sharks and other ocean predators while gaining exclusive access to areas usually closed to the public.
Designed to deepen appreciation for some of the ocean’s most misunderstood animals, the programme takes participants on a journey from prehistoric marine predators to the sharks that continue to play a vital role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems today. Guided by Singapore Oceanarium educators, visitors will explore how these apex predators have evolved over hundreds of millions of years and why their survival is essential to the health of the world’s oceans.
One of the highlights of the experience is exclusive access to a support area overlooking the Shark Seas habitat, where participants can observe shark feeding operations from a unique perspective. Guests will also have the chance to touch real shark specimens, examine the chainmail safety equipment used during feeding sessions and learn how Animal Care Specialists prepare meals while providing specialised care for the animals.
The behind-the–scenes encounter offers a rare glimpse into the expertise, planning and dedication involved in caring for sharks and other apex predators under human care, giving visitors a better understanding of the conservation efforts that support these remarkable species.
Suitable for families, students and marine life enthusiasts, Ocean in Focus: Apex Predators combines storytelling, interactive learning and exclusive access to create an engaging educational experience that encourages visitors to look beyond common misconceptions about sharks and recognise their importance within ocean ecosystems.
Each participant will receive an immersive programme lanyard, a programme credential, a shark species identification postcard and an exclusive Dunkleosteus plush keychain as keepsakes from the experience.
The programme is priced at S$39 per participant, excluding admission to Singapore Oceanarium, and is limited to 12 participants per session. Sessions are conducted in English twice daily at 9.30am and 1.30pm, with only the afternoon session available on Wednesdays.
Ocean in Focus: Apex Predators joins Singapore Oceanarium’s growing lineup of immersive educational experiences, which also includes Animal Spotlight: Sea Jellies, Open Ocean Dive and the Singapore Oceanarium Insider Experience, further expanding opportunities for visitors to explore marine life through interactive and behind the scenes encounters.
