Nestled along the shores of Lake Kivu in Rwanda’s western region, LUX* Lake Kivu offers an intimate 14 key luxury retreat overlooking one of Africa’s Great Lakes. Designed for travellers seeking a slower pace and deeper engagement with their surroundings, the resort combines contemporary design, wellness experiences and destination inspired activities. Guests can unwind in suites and a private villa framed by sweeping lake and hillside views while exploring the region through curated adventures and cultural encounters.

Among the resort’s signature experiences is the Napoleon Trek, which takes guests on a guided hike to Napoleon Island at dawn or dusk to witness thousands of fruit bats taking flight. The Island Run offers private boat excursions to nearby islands, including Blue Monkey Island, home to vervet monkeys, and Swimming Cows Island. For wildlife enthusiasts, the Gorilla Morning excursion provides a full day journey to Volcanoes National Park for mountain gorilla trekking. Guests can also explore Rwanda’s coffee heritage through the From Cherry to Cup experience, which traces the journey of locally grown coffee from plantation to tasting.

Dining at LUX* Lake Kivu is anchored by international restaurant Cleo, lakeside destination dining venue Riva and Maison LUX* café and bar. Wellness offerings include sunrise yoga sessions and treatments at the LUX* ME Spa, complementing the property’s holistic approach to luxury travel.

Strategically located near Nyungwe Forest, Volcanoes National Park and Rwanda’s western tourism corridor, LUX* Lake Kivu serves as both a peaceful lakeside retreat and a gateway to some of the country’s most celebrated natural attractions.

Meanwhile, SALT of Akagera introduces a new eco luxury safari experience overlooking Lake Ihema in Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only Big Five reserve. The reimagined 60 key lodge becomes the world’s first SALT safari property, extending the brand’s human centred philosophy into one of Africa’s most remarkable conservation destinations.

Surrounded by diverse ecosystems including lakes, wetlands, woodlands and savannahs, SALT of Akagera encourages guests to connect with both nature and local communities. The lodge’s design incorporates natural materials, earthy tones and locally crafted elements, creating a warm and authentic safari environment.

The culinary programme embraces a zero waste, farm to table philosophy, with seasonal menus featuring ingredients sourced from Rwanda’s fertile volcanic soils, local fisheries and nearby farms. Signature experiences include Root to Table, which explores Rwanda’s agricultural traditions through food, Boma Nights featuring open fire dining under the stars, and Beyond the Gate, offering behind the scenes insights into Akagera’s conservation efforts as the largest protected wetland in Central Africa.

Conservation and community engagement are central to the SALT experience. Programmes such as SALT Shakers and Skill Swap allow guests to interact with local artisans, communities and conservation initiatives, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and shared learning.

Across both properties, The Lux Collective has integrated Rwanda’s culture and heritage through local partnerships, artisan collaborations, responsible sourcing and community driven initiatives. Guided by the group’s Circle of Care framework and broader ESG commitments, the developments aim to contribute positively to local economies while promoting sustainable tourism practices.

The launch of LUX* Lake Kivu and SALT of Akagera marks the beginning of a larger vision for Rwanda. Three additional developments are planned for 2028 across Volcanoes National Park, Nyungwe National Park and Akagera National Park, further expanding the Rwanda Tourism Circuit and strengthening the country’s position as a leading destination for luxury and sustainable travel.

To celebrate the launch, The Lux Collective is offering exclusive opening packages at both properties. Guests staying at LUX* Lake Kivu can enjoy daily breakfast, the signature LUX* welcome ritual, spa privileges and a curated afternoon tea or coffee experience. At SALT of Akagera, the package includes daily breakfast, the signature SALT welcome ritual, an afternoon tea or coffee experience and a complimentary room upgrade subject to availability.

The launch offer is valid for new bookings made between 15 June and 15 September 2026, for stays from 15 June 2026 to 15 June 2027.
