Meta Launches Muse Spark: Its First People-Focused Large Language Model

Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) has unveiled Muse Spark, the first in a new series of large language models designed to prioritize people and real-world needs. As the foundation for personal superintelligence, Muse Spark aims to help anyone, anywhere, with tasks that matter most, from complex problem-solving to everyday decisions.

A New Era for Meta AI

After nine months of rebuilding its AI stack, Meta Superintelligence Labs has launched Muse Spark as the initial model in the Muse series. Purpose-built to be small, fast, and highly capable, Muse Spark can reason through challenging questions in science, math, and health, and supports multimodal tasks such as interpreting images alongside text.

The model powers the Meta AI assistant in the Meta AI app and on meta.ai, giving users an upgraded AI experience. The assistant now offers Instant and Thinking modes, with the ability to launch multiple subagents simultaneously, for example, planning a family trip by drafting itineraries, comparing destinations, and identifying kid-friendly activities, all at once.

Seeing the World, Not Just Text

Muse Spark introduces strong multimodal perception, allowing Meta AI to interpret the real world, not just text inputs. Users can snap photos of objects, like an airport snack shelf, and the AI can rank options based on nutritional content. This capability extends to health, where Muse Spark helps answer questions involving images and charts, developed in consultation with medical professionals to provide accurate and helpful guidance.

Creativity and Coding at Your Fingertips

Muse Spark also excels at visual coding, letting users create custom websites, mini-games, and interactive dashboards directly from prompts. Whether designing a party planning dashboard, retro arcade game, or flight simulator, users can generate and share these experiences seamlessly.

Personalized Assistance and Context

Meta AI now offers shopping, styling, and local recommendations, drawing insights from the content, communities, and creators that users already follow across Meta’s apps. When exploring locations or trending topics, the AI surfaces relevant posts from locals and communities, bringing context from your people, right where you need it.

Rolling Out and Looking Ahead

The upgraded Meta AI features are initially rolling out in the US, with plans to expand globally and integrate with Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Meta’s AI glasses. The underlying technology will also be made available via private API preview to select partners, with future models expected to be open-sourced.

Meta emphasizes that the launch of Muse Spark is only the beginning. Future updates will incorporate richer, visual results with Reels, photos, and posts woven into answers, all while maintaining strong safeguards for safety and privacy.

Built around relationships and real-world context, Muse Spark represents a major step toward personal superintelligence, an AI that not only answers questions but understands your world because it’s built on it.
