[PROMO Alert] Step Back In Time At Hey Kee HK Seafood And Score Free Wings With Their Dress Up Promo

Stepping into Hey Kee HK Seafood at the iconic former Singapore Badminton Hall on Guillemard Road always felt to me like I was traveling straight into a cinematic scene from 1980s Hong Kong.

If you are looking for a fun culinary experience that is great for a casual meal with family and friends, I can personally attest that their newly launched immersive photo spots campaign is worth going for. Instead of just sitting down to eat, my dining companion and I were invited to dress up in vintage outfits and strike poses around the retro-themed decorated venue. It was an incredibly fun and amazing night that captured the golden era of dai pai dong (大牌檔) culture through an immersive retro experience.

To fully participate in the nostalgia, we browsed through a curated wardrobe of over fifty retro costumes ranging from oversized blazers to colourful floral shirts. Once dressed up, we explored the nine distinct photo zones scattered throughout the dining area.

From pretending to wait at a classic bus stop, posing in front of a nostalgic neighborhood barber shop, standing by a lively seafood market, or belting out tunes at the VIP room stage complete with a microphone, there was no shortage of fun photo opportunities.

The neon lights zone alone pays a glowing tribute to the iconic skyline of the city and served as a magnificent backdrop for pictures. While the vintage ambiance was a fun experience, the authentic Cantonese cuisine is the main draw of course.

We sampled some of their signature creations, starting with the Sizzling Kai Lan with Dried Prawns in Claypot 蝦乾啫啫芥蓝苗 (S$23.80). Arriving at the table pipping hot, the fresh green vegetables was wonderfully crunchy with savoury prawn bits, minced meat and pork lard scattered throughout the dish.

Next came the comforting Steamed Kampong Chicken with Aged Chinese Wine (S$33.20). The tender kampong chicken was smooth and imbued with the rich fragrant aroma of premium aged wine.

For a touch of theatric, we recommend the Hair Dryer White Pepper Prawns 吹风筒白胡椒大头虾 (S$42.80). The presentation was both hilarious and effective. The waitstaff brought out large fresh prawns seasoned with salt and white pepper, then blasted them with heat using a handheld hair dryer right at our table.

This whimsical technique created a tableside spectacle while locking in the sweet juices of the prawns and forming a crisp peppery shell.

The highlight of the meal for us was the Braised Crab with Vermicelli 螃蟹焖米粉 which is charged by weight. The kitchen uses large fresh crabs that are slowly braised over a low fire, with the vermicelli noodles soaking up every drop of the savoury and sweet crab juices.
