Over 200 Punggol Residents Join DPM Gan Kim Yong for McDonald’s Record Breaking Lohei Toss

This morning, McDonald’s Singapore marked the festive season by hosting its largest community Lohei celebration to date at the Punggol Digital District. The event brought together over 200 guests, including ComLink+ families and Punggol residents from various backgrounds, to participate in Chinese New Year (CNY) traditions and foster social connections.

This massive gathering was supported by Families for Life, the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the People’s Association, and JTC. By encouraging families to spend quality time away from digital screens, the initiative aligned with the Grow Well SG strategy to strengthen community bonds and cross cultural appreciation.

The celebration was graced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Gan Kim Yong, alongside Ms Yeo Wan Ling, Adviser to Punggol GRC Grassroots Organisations.

The event began with a synchronised toss known as McDonald’s Biggest Community Lohei. Guests, including DPM Gan, rose together to participate in the tradition using a specially designed McDonald’s Lohei Treasure Box.

This unique box unfolded into a large serving plate containing signature McDonald’s men items such as Prosperity Twister Fries, McWings, and Chicken McNuggets.

Linda Ming, Head of Brand Communications and Customer Care at McDonald’s Singapore, noted that the event reflects the brand’s role in the local social fabric by creating opportunities for reunion and togetherness. She emphasised that seeing families celebrate side by side highlights the joy of connection that defines the brand’s mission in Singapore.

DPM Gan then joined Singaporean calligrapher Malik Mazlan on stage for a special segment whereby they worked on the traditional Chinese character for Horse, “mǎ” together to usher in the new zodiac year. After Mazlan is done with the calligraphy, DPM Gan applied the final seal to complete the artwork.

In addition to the physical celebration, McDonald’s continues its charitable efforts through the ongoing Prosperity campaign. For every purchase of a Prosperity Special Meal, 10 cents is donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities Singapore. these funds provide essential care and support to families with seriously ill children, ensuring that the spirit of giving extends beyond the festive event.

Throughout the day, families participated in various interactive cultural experiences.

A Tree of Wishes allowed residents to pen their hopes for the Punggol community, while a Calligraphy Corner provided hands on practice for writing auspicious characters like “fú” for good fortune.

Guests also enjoyed a Fortune Photobooth featuring oversized props of iconic menu items. The atmosphere remained lively with mass games including a special Bingo featuring McDonald’s favorites and the Families for Life mascot, Becky Bunny. Families also engaged in a game of Pass the Oranges, sharing auspicious phrases to embody prosperity for the year ahead.
