Get ready for roaring drums, racing boats, and an electric summer vibe as Hong Kong’s Dragon Boat Festival makes its triumphant return! This year, the city comes alive with thrilling competition, cultural celebrations, and waterfront festivities — all culminating in the 2025 Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races, happening 7–8 June at Victoria Harbour.
Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, this world-class event brings together over 190 elite teams from 12 countries and regions, including newcomers from Qatar and Egypt, for an unforgettable spectacle set against Hong Kong’s iconic skyline. Head to the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade to cheer on your favourites and capture high-octane action shots right by the water.
A Festival of Races, Culture, and Celebration
Starting 31 May, the festivities stretch over 9 days and nights along the stunning Avenue of Stars, transforming the waterfront into a buzzing hub of activity. From 1pm to 10pm daily, visitors can indulge in festive treats, icy drinks, and summery sweets, all while soaking in the stunning harbour views.
Don’t miss the adorable Panda Friends from Ocean Park — including stars like An An, Ke Ke, Ying Ying, Le Le, and their twin cubs — featured at themed photo spots. A panda-themed pop-up store will also offer limited-edition merchandise for fans.
When the racing action heats up on 7–8 June, spectators can enjoy free entry, shaded viewing areas, and a lively Beer Garden at Urban Council Centenary Garden. Keep an eye out for surprise appearances by Cirque du Soleil performers adding a touch of theatrical magic to the event.
Tradition Meets Celebration: Hong Kong ICH Month
This year’s Dragon Boat Festival is extra special as it kicks off the inaugural Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Month, celebrating time-honoured customs and crafts. Recognised by UNESCO, the festival honours centuries of tradition — from its mythical origins to its vibrant rituals.
Visitors can take part in guided ICH tours, including experiences like bamboo steamer-making and more. Tours are available for sign-up at Hong Kong International Airport Visitor Centre or Kowloon Visitor Centre starting 9 June, or through the ICH Month 2025 website.
