Central Singapore CDC Launches GiraffeSG @ Central to Elevate Community Action and Social Impact

Central Singapore CDC is taking its mission of doing good to the next level with the launch of GiraffeSG @ Central—an ambitious initiative aimed at empowering individuals and organisations to “stick their necks out for the common good.” Inspired by the national Forward Singapore vision, the refreshed initiative underscores a stronger social compact where all Singaporeans play a role in shaping a more inclusive, resilient future.

At the recent District Meeting, themed “Building a Do-Good District,” Mayor Denise Phua addressed over 250 corporate and community partners, emphasizing the need for district-level responses to rising challenges—from the cost of living and an ageing population to shifting family dynamics and rapid technological change. The CDC aims to stay relevant by co-developing solutions with like-minded partners and residents.

Introducing GiraffeSG @ Central

A reimagined extension of the Giraffe Singapore movement (est. 2015), GiraffeSG @ Central comprises three core pillars:

  • GiraffeSG Campaign – An awareness movement inviting individuals and organisations to volunteer and/or donate, supporting a $10 million community fund goal.
  • GiraffeSG Do-Good Grant – Funding for JCs and IHLs to launch projects that improve lives in Central Singapore.
  • GiraffeSG Heroes Award – Honouring outstanding contributions from individuals and organisations that have made a positive impact in the district.

These efforts build upon Central Singapore CDC’s 50+ active programmes under its Better Life framework, which focuses on five key pillars: Financial Wellness, Physical Wellness & Sustainability, Socio-Emotional Wellness & Inclusiveness, Lifelong Learning, and Service to Others.

Key Upcoming Initiatives

As part of its GiraffeSG efforts, the CDC unveiled new and expanded programmes for 2025:

  • Financial Literacy with UOB – Boosting financial knowledge through bite-sized tips and resources.
  • Pass-It-On Market with The Helping Hand – A zero-waste initiative promoting second-hand goods and community bonding.
  • The Purple Parade SG60 – A major celebration of inclusivity and the abilities of persons with disabilities, as part of SG60.
  • Enhanced DOTS Academy @ Central with SingLand – Offering youth coaching and learning programmes through Singapore Land Group.
  • #EatGiveLove with Si Chuan Dou Hua – Bringing quality dining experiences to underserved communities through corporate volunteering.
  • CSR Collaboration with Unilever – Distributing “Gift of Love” care packages and enhancing community well-being.

Sustaining Long-Term Impact

To date, Central Singapore CDC has reached over 226,000 residents, engaged over 25,000 volunteers, and collaborated with more than 900 organisations. Initiatives like the CDC Vouchers Scheme, Silver Homes, and ‘Jobs Near Me’ @ Central continue to provide targeted support, while inclusive movements like The Purple Parade and The Purple Symphony foster unity and belonging.

With GiraffeSG @ Central, the CDC is set to lead a new era of community-driven action—encouraging every resident to be not just a beneficiary, but a contributor and co-creator in shaping a better Central Singapore.
