As Singapore celebrates its 59th National Day, Pullman Singapore Orchard has launched a Taste of Tradition National Day Menu at Eden Restaurant. The limited time offering features a selection of premium skewers and inventive beverages, each infused with local flavours that seek to capture the essence of Singapore’s food heritage.
Asher and I went for a lunch tasting on National Day itself on 9 August and we managed to try most of the dishes from the limited time menu. The experience begun with a DIY Singapore Chilli Crab Kueh Pie Tee, priced at $18 for six pieces.
This interactive starter invites you to fill traditional Nonya Kueh Pie Tee shells with plump crab meat topped with Eden’s rendition of the Singapore Chili Crab sauce, jicama, carrots and bamboo shoots, offering a playful twist on a beloved local dish. This is a fun sharing dish to enjoy with your friends and family.
For the main course, Eden Restaurant showcases an array of gourmet skewers that seek to reflect the diversity of Singaporean cuisine. We love the presentation of these skewers and their rich, smoky flavours. These are so good we feel they should be retained as mainstay dishes in Eden’s regular menu.
Highlights include the Laksa Tiger Prawns ($34), featuring prawns marinated in traditional laksa spices, the Sambal Turmeric Mackerel Steak ($34), which is grilled to perfection with a complex sambal and turmeric blend.
Nonya Curry Vegetables on the left
The Homemade Chicken Satay ($32) and Beef Rendang Tenderloin ($38) also make an appearance, each dish served with Grilled Nasi Rempah and Nonya Curry Vegetables.
These dishes are available à la carte or as part of a special deal at $59 for two. We tried the prawn, mackerel and beef skewers, but skipped the chicken skewer as we were too full. We highly recommend the prawn skewer which managed to capture the uniquely Singapore laksa flavour in the form of a grilled skewer dish.
To conclude the meal on a sweet note, you can indulge in the Onde Onde Sundae ($16), a dessert that combines Gula Melaka, Brownie, and Coconut Floss, capturing the sweet flavours of Singapore’s heritage.
Complementing the food, Eden’s mixologists have created a series of cocktails and mocktails inspired by Singaporean flavors. Notable options include the Heart of Lion ($23), featuring Brass Lion Butterfly Pea Gin, and the Singapore Royale ($23), a tropical blend of rum, jackfruit, and coconut liqueur.
Right: Red Date Iced Longan Tea ($12) – Goji Berries, Red Date Longan Tea, Fresh Longan
For non-alcoholic options, the Red Date Iced Longan Tea ($12) and Milo Dinosaur Kaw ($12) offer refreshing and nostalgic flavours. Basically, these are elevated versions of regular childhood drinks we find at pasar malam and local coffeeshops respectively.
Overall, we are impressed by how the culinary team at Eden Restaurant is able to consistently roll out new fusion dishes, with a delicate balance of both the East and West, as well as local and foreign flavours.
The Taste of Tradition National Day Menu is now available at Eden Restaurant from 1 to 31 August 2024, with daily service from 12 pm to 11 pm. For reservations or more information, visit the official Eden Restaurant website.
