The 18th edition of the Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) officially opened for registration today with a launch event at Guoco Tower Urban Park. The event was officiated by Ms. Sun Xueling, Minister of State (MOS) for Social and Family Development and Home Affairs, and Mr. Khor Hock Seng, Group Chief Executive Officer of Great Eastern.
Building on the success of last year’s run, which saw participation from over 9,000 women, GEWR 2024 is set to take place on Sunday, October 27, at the Singapore Sports Hub. As Singapore’s only all-women’s running event, GEWR offers six race categories, including:
- The by-invite-only 21.1 km half marathon for local elite runners
- The 21.1 km half marathon, 10 km, and 5 km runs for the public
- The 2 km ‘Mummy and Me’ run for women with daughters aged 5 to 12
- The 100 m Princess Dash for children aged 3 to 6
Fitness Fun for the Young with Cinnamoroll
Understanding the importance of instilling healthy habits from a young age, Great Eastern is encouraging young girls to get active by introducing Sanrio character Cinnamoroll as a special guest for participants in the 2 km ‘Mummy and Me’ and 100 m Princess Dash categories. Participants can look forward to exclusive GEWR X Cinnamoroll merchandise, including race tees, bibs, and medals. Additionally, all participants who donate $38 during registration will receive a GEWR X Cinnamoroll bag charm and eco tote bag, while stocks last.
Expanded Fundraising Efforts
GEWR has long supported Daughters Of Tomorrow (DOT) and the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) through fundraising efforts by Great Eastern’s employees and financial representatives. This year, the run has introduced a new fundraising category for corporate partners to boost donations for these causes. Companies can form teams and help raise funds via the Simply Giving website.
To mark the official opening of race registration and the start of the fundraising campaign, MOS Sun ran alongside representatives from Great Eastern, corporate partners like 100PLUS and Blk J Havas, and beneficiaries from DOT and SCS. During a 10-minute treadmill segment, $10,099 was raised as Great Eastern donated $1 for every meter covered. This amount, along with the $38 donations, will be added to the fundraising campaign proceeds, with 100% going to DOT and SCS.
Special Anniversary Commemoration
In celebration of Great Eastern’s 116th anniversary, the first 116 women in the physical registration queue wearing GEWR tees received a pair of complimentary race slots. Additionally, the first 1,000 registrants received goodie bags worth up to $125.
