Immerse in a month-long extravaganza of French culture as the vOilah! France Singapore Festival 2024 returns from April 25 to May 26, 2024. Presented by the Embassy of France in Singapore, this eagerly anticipated event promises to ignite new passions and foster cross-cultural collaborations between France and Singapore.
Themed “Celebrating Passions,” this year’s festival pays tribute to France’s significant milestone of hosting the Summer Olympics for the third time. Highlighting the driving force behind individuals striving for excellence in various fields, vOilah! 2024 aims to showcase the best of French and Singaporean innovation and creativity through an array of engaging experiences.
Supported by over 50 local and international partners, the festival boasts a diverse lineup spanning audiovisual arts, performing arts, visual arts, lifestyle, sports, science, gastronomy, and music. Collaborations between France and Singapore have resulted in a vibrant tapestry of events, offering festival-goers a chance to discover powerful expressions of passion and unique perspectives.
One highlight of the festival is “Tartuffe: The Imposter,” presented by Wild Rice. This modern adaptation of the 360-year-old French play by Molière follows the antics of Tartuffe, a charming con artist masquerading as a man of faith, as he infiltrates an unsuspecting wealthy family.
The festival also honors French legends such as Antoine de Saint Exupéry, author of “The Little Prince,” with the exhibition “Saint Exupéry: A Legacy” presented by Alliance Française de Singapour. Additionally, “Piaf! The Show” pays tribute to Edith Piaf, the iconic French singer of the 1940s, celebrating her life and music.
Closing the festival is “Artletics,” a two-day celebration of urban artistry and athleticism. Led by the Embassy of France in Singapore and Art Outreach, this event transforms Somerset Skate Park into an inspiring canvas for French and Singaporean urban artists. It also features skateboarding demonstrations, highlighting the integration of urban sports into the Olympics and uniting France and Singapore through youth, art, and sports.
Other festival highlights include “Moby Dick” by artist Yngvild Aspeli, classical and jazz performances at the Botanic Gardens, recitals by world-renowned harpist Xavier de Maistre, and the “France-Singapore Forum: Nature in the City,” addressing environmental issues related to biodiversity preservation in urban areas.
