In a heartwarming display of unity and inclusivity, the Down Syndrome Association (Singapore) marked the annual World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) with vibrant celebrations at One Punggol Celebration Square. On March 23rd, from 8 am to 3 pm, more than 600 individuals with Down syndrome and their families came together for a day filled with camaraderie and advocacy.
The event, organized by the Down Syndrome Association (Singapore), aimed to honor the abilities and contributions of individuals with Down syndrome while fostering a sense of community among participants. A highlight of the day was the Buddy Walk, symbolizing the partnership and support shared along the journey with persons with Down syndrome and their families.
Leading the charge was Guest of Honour Mr. Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Social and Family Development. Donning mismatched socks, Mr. Chua joined over 500 families and participants in the symbolic Buddy Walk, embodying the spirit of solidarity.
Families, educators, and supporters enthusiastically participated in various activities, games, and performances throughout the day. Notably, first-time participants from Kranji Secondary School, North Vista Secondary School, Edgefield Secondary School, and M.Y World Preschool added to the lively atmosphere with their contributions.
