The Down Syndrome Association Singapore (DSA) is gearing up to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st with an exciting initiative called “Rock Your Socks.” This campaign invites people to embrace diversity by wearing mismatched socks, symbolizing the uniqueness of differently ordered chromosomes.
Under the theme ‘End the Stereotypes. We are just like you.’, the ‘Rock Your Socks’ campaign aims to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity. Evelyn Lai, Executive Director of DSA, emphasizes that individuals with Down syndrome are more than their condition.
#RockYourSocks is a vibrant movement that encourages everyone to celebrate differences and show support for the Down Syndrome community. By wearing colorful mismatched socks, participants can raise awareness and promote acceptance. These socks, chosen for their resemblance to chromosomes, represent the diverse capabilities of individuals with Down Syndrome.
Support the ‘Rock Your Socks’ campaign by:
Purchasing DSA socks designed by members with Down syndrome from the official website.
Wearing colorful mismatched DSA socks and sharing photos on social media using the hashtags #WorldDownSyndromeDay, #Endthestereotypeswearejustlikeyou, and #RockYourSocks, while tagging @downsyndromesingapore.
In addition to the ‘Rock Your Socks’ campaign, the DSA will host the WDSD 2024 Carnival at One Punggol on Saturday, 23 March 2024, from 8am to 3pm. The highlight of the carnival is the signature Buddy Walk, symbolizing camaraderie and support for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families. The event will feature talent showcases, games, stalls selling crafts and food items, and a 1-km walk around One Punggol.
Get involved and make a difference by setting up a fundraising campaign to support DSA’s efforts in advocating for the community and raising awareness of Down Syndrome. Visit fundraising portals to contribute to this meaningful cause.
Let’s come together to celebrate diversity and promote inclusivity on World Down Syndrome Day 2024. Join the ‘Rock Your Socks’ movement and show your support for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.
