DBS/POSB and DBS Foundation Intensify Efforts to Combat Scams and Fraud, Empowering the Community

In response to the escalating threat of digital scams, DBS/POSB and DBS Foundation are doubling down on efforts to protect the community and equip individuals with the knowledge and tools to stay safe online. With scams persisting in Singapore, the organizations are ramping up their initiatives to safeguard customers and raise awareness about online security.

Organised by POSB and DBS Foundation, “Your Neighbourhood Getai” is an edutainment-style workshop that marries Getai edutainment with digital literacy education, and is part of the bank’s efforts to reach out to and support more seniors.

Partnering with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), DBS/POSB and DBS Foundation have co-created an anti-scam quiz designed to keep users informed about the latest scam developments. This quiz aims to enhance the community’s understanding of phishing and other online scams, particularly among seniors, and provide them with valuable tips to protect themselves. The success of this initiative is evident, with 82% of participants reporting increased confidence in digital banking after taking the quiz.

To expand the reach of this educational tool, DBS Foundation plans to integrate the quiz into digital literacy workshops conducted under its partnership with the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). These workshops, which have already benefited over 60,000 individuals, are part of a larger effort to drive digital inclusion in Singapore.

In addition to educational initiatives, DBS Foundation is exploring innovative approaches to raise awareness about scams among different demographics. This includes launching a ‘Adopt-A-Grandparent’ TikTok campaign in partnership with Lions Befrienders, aimed at connecting generations and fostering a safer online environment.

Volunteers guiding seniors at the digital literacy workshop on anti-scam tips and other digital literacy skills. These workshops are part of DBS Foundation’s partnership with IMDA to drive digital literacy and inclusion in the community, so as to ensure no one’s left behind in today’s fast-digitalising world.

Furthermore, DBS/POSB continues to empower customers with greater control over the security of their funds. Through features like ‘Security Checkup’ and ‘Payment Controls’, customers can monitor and manage their account security settings effectively. The bank is committed to enhancing these security features to adapt to the evolving scam and fraud landscape, ensuring that customers’ funds remain protected.

As scams continue to pose a threat to individuals of all ages, DBS/POSB and DBS Foundation are dedicated to strengthening their efforts in combating fraud and empowering the community to stay vigilant online.
