As Singapore Art Week 2024 unfolds, Funan welcomes art enthusiasts and shoppers to embark on an extraordinary journey through its fourth mall-wide art activation, “Creative Intersections: Traces of Dragons.” Running from January 19 to February 25, 2024, this month-long exhibition promises a captivating blend of contemporary artistry and cultural exploration.
A Dragon’s Tale Unveiled
Step into the enchanting realm of Creative Intersections, where the mythical Year of the Dragon serves as the muse for innovative interpretations. The exhibition, curated against the backdrop of Funan’s six passion themes—Craft, Chic, Fit, Play, Taste, and Tech—offers a visually immersive experience. From installations and performances to workshops, Funan transforms various spaces to bring the elusive dragon to life.
Art Meets Retail Spectacle
Collaborating with Vertical Submarine, Funan’s Creative Intersections: Traces of Dragons is not merely an art showcase but a convergence of art and retail. Sixteen artists and brand collaborations, including renowned names like Lenskart, RAZER, and Wild Rice, contribute to a spectacular fusion of heritage, culture, history, legends, and pop culture.
Diverse Artistic Expressions
This year’s collaboration features a prose poem titled “On the Trail of the Dragon” by Yeow Kai Chai, which acts as a narrative thread connecting the works of participating artists. UOB Young Artist of 2018, Koh Kai Ting, blends fantasy and reality through animations inspired by natural phenomena, displayed on Funan’s Kinetic Wall.
Artisan Craftsman Mr. Phua guides selected artists in crafting and painting dragon eggs, reflecting Funan’s passion clusters. Noteworthy collaborations include Jeremy Hiah’s insect sculptures with The Green Capsule and an audiovisual masterpiece by Ong Kian Peng in partnership with RAZER.
Dance of the Dragon – A CapitaLand Collaboration
During Lunar New Year, CapitaLand teams up with Tell Your Children to present “Dance Of The Dragon,” an animated light art installation. Located at Funan’s Level 1 Atrium from January 18 to February 4, this modern interpretation of the traditional dragon offers an immersive experience with a 10-minute light show every 30 minutes.
Shoppers can engage with the installation through an interactive Instagram filter and stand a chance to win $50 eCapitaVoucher. Additionally, the Underground Pedestrian Linkway in Basement 2 hosts “The Gachapartment Complex,” an installation by Illustrator and Designer Nikkei, available from January 19 to March 3, 2024.
Creative Intersections: Traces of Dragons at Funan promises a unique fusion of art, culture, and retail, providing visitors with an unparalleled experience in the heart of Singapore’s city center.
