In a pioneering move to revive the lost art of borrowing, Hotel Indigo, a part of IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, has unveiled a global initiative called “Borrowed by Hotel Indigo.” This innovative program, introduced on the heels of the brand’s expansive marketing campaign, The World’s Neighbourhood Hotel, aims to foster connections and build communities.
Connecting Guests to Local Neighbourhoods
Responding to a global survey by Hotel Indigo, which revealed that 73 percent of respondents prioritize staying in hotels connected to the local neighbourhood, the Borrowed by Hotel Indigo program is set to run from December 2023 to February 2024.
Guests staying at Hotel Indigo properties across Southeast Asia, including Bali, Bangkok, Phuket, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur, will now have the unique opportunity to borrow everyday items specific to the local neighbourhoods where the hotels are situated. This initiative encourages guests to discover or rediscover culturally rich neighbourhoods, celebrating the tastes and traditions of these communities.
Unique Borrowing Experiences
Hotel Indigo has curated a diverse range of borrowing experiences for guests. For example, at Hotel Indigo Phuket Patong, visitors can try their hand at Muay Thai boxing using hotel-branded boxing gloves. In Bangkok, Hotel Indigo Wireless Road offers guests three distinct sets – Saen Sabai (The Picnic Set), Teaw Talod (The Explorer Set), and Suay Rerd (The Photographer Set) – tailored to personal preferences for exploring the City of Angels.
Reviving the Art of Borrowing
The concept of borrowing has seen a decline in our evolving social structure, with a recent survey by Hotel Indigo revealing that people interact less with their neighbours than ever before. Borrowed by Hotel Indigo seeks to reignite the habit of lending to a neighbour, highlighting the significance of being inseparable from the community. Properties in the US, UK, and Australia have already initiated this program, inviting guests and locals in the same zip code to borrow commonly sought-after items, from sugar to coffee, emphasizing the communal spirit.
Embracing Local Tastes and Community Connection
Research also shows that nearly 60 percent of travellers are eager to be more adventurous with food during their trips. In line with this, participating Hotel Indigo properties will offer locally sourced items such as honey, hot sauce, grilling rubs, and seafood seasoning, allowing guests to take a piece of the neighbourhood back home.
In a world where community interactions have dwindled, Borrowed by Hotel Indigo takes a bold step towards reviving the age-old practice of borrowing, aiming to contribute to happier and more connected communities. Guests are encouraged to embrace this novel initiative, rediscover the joy of borrowing, and explore the vibrant communities surrounding Hotel Indigo properties worldwide.
