Get ready to be swept away by a musical journey down memory lane as the Music & Drama Company (MDC) marks its glorious 50th anniversary with a spectacular three-day extravaganza called “Music & Memories.” This captivating celebration is set to take center stage at the Toa Payoh HDB Hub Atrium, and it’s a show you won’t want to miss!
A Tale of Legacy and Gratitude
Founded in 1973 by the visionary then-Defence Minister Dr. Goh Keng Swee, MDC had a noble mission: to boost the spirits of our soldiers in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) through live entertainment. From humble beginnings, performing on makeshift stages fashioned from three-tonners, MDC has evolved into a highly professional company, capable of delivering multimedia song and dance extravaganzas, musicals, and so much more.
Heartland Extravaganza: Music & Memories
At this heartwarming show, National Servicemen, their families, and the public will be treated to renditions of timeless hits spanning from the past to the present. Prepare to relive cherished memories and create new ones as MDC artistes take you on a musical journey. Look out for their performance of “Warriors,” an original track from the MDC50 anniversary album. This pop-rock anthem, released in May 2023, pays tribute to National Servicemen and has already stirred hearts at the Basic Military Training Centre (BMTC) Recruits’ Night and Graduation Parades.
Star-Studded Lineup and Interactive Fun
Prepare to be dazzled as notable MDC alumni, including the renowned singer Sebastian Tan (Broadway Beng), and talented dancers Moe Kasim, Jackie Pereira, and Farhan Hassan, grace the stage alongside current MDC stars like RINES, Dominic Chin, Izzathy, and many more. The excitement doesn’t stop at the performances. The audience will get to participate in thrilling stage games via the CAMOKAKIS app and explore a special exhibition showcasing the rich history and remarkable transformation of MDC over the past five decades.
Don’t miss the guest appearance of Bailey, one of MDC’s latest artistes and a member of the avatar girl group SO*DA, who will be engaging visitors with their charismatic presence.
An Anniversary to Remember
MDC’s anniversary celebrations kicked off with a bang with its first anchor performance at the brand-new SAFRA Choa Chu Kang in June this year. The grand finale will be a year-end concert at the iconic Victoria Theatre.
The public can also catch MDC’s upcoming performance on 13 October 2023, at Popaholic, part of Esplanade’s Free Programme Series.
