Grab announces new services for airport ride-hailing bookings to support the expected return of passenger traffic to Changi Airport. GrabShare BETA has been expanded to Changi Airport terminals 2 and 3 from today, and is available from 5pm-12am. You can also book Grab rides directly from messaging platforms WeChat and WhatsApp.
GrabShare BETA (Changi Airport) service
The GrabShare BETA trial has expanded to Changi Airport terminals 2 and 3 in the evenings (5pm – 12am). Grab will keep monitoring the situation before assessing if the service will be made available at more areas and timings.
With GrabShare BETA (Changi Airport), two passengers who are travelling light and not in a rush can share a Grab ride at a lower fare. The latest version of the service has been redesigned based on feedback from users and driver-partners, ensuring that drivers will not have to make unnecessary detours when picking up matched passengers.
The Changi Airport-specific improvements to the service include:
- Only passengers within the same terminal will be matched to a ride. This allows both pick-ups to be completed efficiently
- Pick-ups will be assigned based on the sequence of door numbers starting with the one nearest to the driver. This way, passengers can be picked up efficiently without the need for detours.
- Only one 27” luggage is allowed per passenger, so that there is enough space for all baggage and both passengers can travel comfortably.
Existing GrabShare BETA features such as upfront matching, no-cancellation policy and cashless-only payment method will continue to apply to this experience.
Book Grab rides via WeChat and WhatsApp
You may sometimes prefer not to download a new app just for ride-hailing purposes if you are on short trips or just using mobile devices with bandwidth constraints. To help you circumvent these concerns while still providing easy access to on-demand rides, Grab will make its ride-hailing service available for booking through messaging platforms such as WeChat and Whatsapp.
How to book Grab rides through partner platforms:
Grab x WeChat:
- WeChat users can book the full range of Grab ride-hailing services through the Grab Mini Program when they arrive in Changi Airport.
- Under Discover, select “Mini Programs” and search “Grab”
- Launch the Grab mini programme and book your ride
Grab x WhatsApp:
- WhatsApp users can book Grab rides through a chatbot which is accessed via a QR code
- They can then key in their pickup and drop-off locations
Once a ride is booked, ride details such as the estimated time of arrival, driver details, and contact details will be provided.
You will be able to use both apps by the end of March 2023.
Improved Grab app experience for passengers in Changi Airport
Grab has improved its existing Venues feature, a navigation tool which provides you with in-app photo and text directions to get to your selected pick-up point. With the latest version, you will now be able to look at images of each pick-up point prior to selecting the one you want and get turn-by-turn directions to it before you book your ride.
This helps you more accurately select the pick-up point you wish to meet your driver at and get there easily, which in turn reduces drivers’ wait time and eases congestion at pick-up points.
Grab is also looking to simplify its ride-booking screen for passengers at the airport so you can more easily select the best vehicle option to accommodate your group size and luggage.
More details on this will be provided soon.
