KIA unveils its first fully-electric vehicle that can run over 390 kilometers in a single charge

Cycle & Carriage Kia launches the much-awaited premier model of their product line – the EV6, a fully-electric sports crossover vehicle. Available in 2 variants, namely the Standard (Single Motor / Standard range), and the GT-line (Dual Motor / Long range) models, the EV6 combines futuristic smart features with luxurious space and comfort to make everyday drives greener with style.

Electric-Global Modular Platform

The launch of the EV6 also marks the debut of Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), following its rebranding efforts last year. A dedicated and modular platform, the development of the E-GMP signifies a bold commitment to the development of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

Seamlessly adapted to sedans, SUVs, and beyond, the E-GMP will also see increased efficiency and optimised packaging, as compared to its earlier EV models.

Battery

Boasting 800V ultra-fast charging capability with zero emissions, the new EV6 is designed to inspire a whole new way of eco-friendly living – an embodiment of the brand’s vision of Movement that Inspires. Both the GT-line and standard model have a top speed of 188 kilometres per hour, accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour within 5.2 seconds for the GT-line, and 0-100 in 8.5 seconds for the Standard model.

In just one charge, the EV6’s standard model can cover the distance of 394 kilometres (from Singapore to Genting Highlands), with an additional 112 kilometres for the GT-line model.

Moreover, it only takes 18 minutes to charge up from 10% to 80% with the ultra-fast charge feature – with only one charge needed for 10 days of travelling (based on 20,000km mileage travelled per year).

Luxury and Style

Setting a new standard for functional design, the new EV6 features a 12.3-inch panoramic curved display that offers an immersive and easy-driving experience by providing high-definition navigation information with minimal controls.

Supported by E-GMP technology, the EV6 boasts a versatile interior and a plethora of cabin storage areas with a voluminous trunk space ensure a fuss-free and luxuriously comfortable drive.

The EV6 GT-line’s ergonomic plush seats are also made with refined suede and vegan leather, along with vegan leather interiors for the Standard model. Featuring recycled PETs for floor mats, sleek door map pockets as well as recycled plastics for the dashboard, the EV6 serves as an eco-friendly alternative for urban city drives, and an emblem of Kia’s commitment to the future of electric mobility.

Equal parts elegant and rugged, with a sportier look for the GT-line, the EV6 has been visually designed with distinctive key features – including Kia’s iconic ‘tiger-nose’ grille; now reinterpreted for the modern age. Adding a distinctive touch to contemporary design, the addition of daytime running lights, including a sequential dynamic light pattern, creates the ‘tiger face’ design that is synonymous to Kia.

Having claimed victory in this year’s 2022 Red Dot Design Awards as ‘Red Dot: Best of the Best’ and winner in the ‘Innovative Products’ category, EV6 is the first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) designed under Kia’s new ‘Opposites United’ philosophy – Showcasing a powerful visual identity with contrasting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural shapes, symbolic for the design of future BEVs.

Eco-Friendly Smart Safety Features

Cruise through winding roads seamlessly with EV6’s sleek smart tech features — including a Smart Regenerative Braking system, which in tandem with its class leading advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) technology, uses its sensors to automatically adjust the regenerative braking based on road traffic conditions.

The Smart Cruise Control feature reduces fatigue from heavy traffic and long drives by automatically maintaining a distance from vehicles detected in front, with an auto-stop and start feature. The EV6 also combines convenience and style with flushed door handles coupled with built-in touch sensors that offer automatic deployment functions.

Equipped with one of the best safety and driver assistance suites currently offered in the market, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features are standard on the EV6. Promising a smoother and safer drive, additional safety features include:

  • Blindspot View monitor which provides a live view of the blindspot in the instrument cluster, removing the blindspot danger when changing lanes
  • Blindspot avoidance assist which warns of cars within the blindspot and assists to guide you back into your lane should an imminent collision be detected.
  • Lane following assist with the vehicle staying within painted road markings detected by the vehicle.
  • Safe exit warning gives an audible warning and prevents the opening of the door when it detects a car approaching from the rear.
  • Front Collision Avoidance Assist & Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist which minimises frontal and rear collisions.
  • Kia’s innovative Surround View Monitor allows you to control the angle and see all around the car from whichever angle you desire when parking.

To date, the EV6 has already received multiple awards, including the 2022 European Car of The Year (COTY) — making it the first Korean automobile brand to do so. Other awards include: 2022 Red Dot Design Awards, Autocar Awards 2022 for ‘Best Electric Car’, and the U.S. News 2022 for ‘Best Electric Vehicle’.

Gearing up for a cleaner, greener energy, EV6 is the first of 11 model EV line-ups with seven dedicated EVs in the pipeline for this leading automaker. Kia has also announced plans to unveil its first purpose-built vehicle (PBV) – an electric, autonomous machine for commercial use – in 2022, aiming to build a million PBVs by 2030.
