#BuySingLit goes bigger this 2019 in promoting Singapore Literature happening on 8 to 17 March

The third edition of #BuySingLit movement to promote Singapore literature promises to be its biggest yet, with the addition of an extra weekend of activity that will be held from 8 to 17 March 2019, which will feature unique programmes offered by various local publishers, retailers and non-profits.

Here’s the #BuySingLit 2019 programme highlights:

Sing Lit Cloud

Incorporating interactive technology with its advocacy in the literary arts, Sing Lit Cloud takes the form of a limited series of standing printers, capable of generating excerpts of quality Singaporean prose on-demand like the Teenage Textbook by Adrian Lim and They Do Return…But Gently Lead Them Back by Catherine Lim.

Organised by Sing Lit Station. Sing Lit Cloud Printers can be found in the following locations: Our Tampines Hub, Mapletree Business City, Library@Harbourfront

Grab SingLit

From 8 to 31 March 2019, Grab can use GrabRewards to redeem a mystery SingLit book gift from any of the 14 different locations including bookshops and co-working spaces around Singapore. 8,000 books are up for grabs, with titles including Balik Kampung by Verena Tay and Lieutenant Kurosawa’s Errand Boy by Warran Kalasegaran.

Pesta Buku Melayu – Buana Buku Rimbun Ilmu (World of Books, Luxury of Knowledge)

Happening on 16-17 March 2019, Singapore’s First Malay-centric book carnival organised by Pustaka Islamiyah will be held at Wisma Geylang Serai. this programme features six different Malay publishers in Singapore coming together for a weekend of literary activities and storytelling, celebrating the Malay language and culture.

Textures

On 8-10 March 2019, the Arts House’s signature programme Textures returns on the first weekend of #BuySingLit as Textures 2019’s shining a spotlight on how words capture and decipher a spectrum of emotions and related themes, through curated programmes that transcend traditional literary art forms, ranging from performances, exhibitions, workshops, talks, and a book fair.

Yong Siak Street Party

Literature comes alive along Yong Siak Street in Tiong Bahru on 16-17 March 2019 with a whole slew of SingLit activities including lunch with a local author, to a search for familiar local faces to win #BuySingLit book vouchers. Organised by indie bookstore BooksActually and their neighbours.

We All Step On Snails: A Poetry & Terrarium Experience

Calm those frayed nerves and fight the urban blues through a poetry performance by poet Marc Nair while crafting your very own terrarium running from 9 to 17 March 2019.

Legend of Bukit Merah — An Intergenerational Adaptation

On 9 March 2019, an intergenerational theatre programme will explore the legend of Redhill based on the book Attack of The Swordfish. The participants, made up of senior citizens and kindergarten children, will explore different perspectives of the story in relation to the world today.
