Park Min Young and Kim Jong Kook can’t live without their smartphones

Pretty Park Min Young, the female star of Korean drama series What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim and jovial Kim Jong Kook of Running Man fame were in town just on Friday (August 10) to celebrate the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy Note9 smartphone.

Park and Kim individually entertained an enthusiastic media posse at a press conference on Friday afternoon, and went on to party with more than 800 Samsung and Viu fans at the Gardens By The Bay in the evening.

Speaking in fluent English and Korean, multilingual Park got personal with the crowd by sharing about her favourite Singapore dish and her secret to glowing skin, among other things.

She had arrived in Singapore on Thursday, and ate a “huge” chili crab upon her arrival, she said. She also revealed that she has a sister who lives in Singapore – keep your eyes peeled for a Park Min Young lookalike on the streets.

When asked about the secret to her gorgeous skin, the 32-year-old actress shared that she would remove her makeup during breaks in between filming, and apply sheet masks as frequently as possible. “Because of my job, I tend to wear makeup 20 to 24 hours a day and that makes my skin really dry. So remove all my makeup and apply a mask pack whenever I can, during break time. I apply two to three mask packs every day,” she said.

Her favourite role, she shared, is the titular Secretary Kim in hit Hallyu drama What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim. “It is the most recent one and the character resonates with me,” she said. One thing in common she shared with her onscreen personality: She’s always on her smartphone.

She personally manages her own Weibo and Instagram account, adding that she “gets really nervous” when her smartphone is not on her. As she travels frequently, her most-used smartphone app is the camera. At this point, she waxes lyrical about the Samsung Galaxy Note9’s impeccable camera functions and how it’s great for taking selfies.

Like her, co-spokesperson Kim Jong Kook is also very attached to his smartphone. “I could die if I’m left without it for a few hours. But I won’t say it’s an addiction – it’s simply a necessity because it’s so useful,” he said in fluent English.

But if it came down to giving up his smartphone or working out, which one had to go? The phone, said the buff entertainer with a toothy grin.

He works out twice a day, once in the morning and a second time at the gym after he’s done for the day. With such a muscular build, there’s no wonder how he earned the nickname “SpartaKook”. He takes pains to eat “really healthily” after his workouts and considers it a punishment if he is served junk food. His only indulgence: Cream cake or chocolate cake.

Looks like it’s all worth it. Whatever he’s wearing can’t hide how ripped his body is. Just look at him.
