If you’re looking for a place to feast this Chinese New Year, you might want to try out LOCAL Restaurant and Bar located in the newly revamped 30 Bencoolen hotel. From 22 January to the 2 March, these eight festive dishes are available for both dine-in and for take-away.
30 Bencoolen “Sure Huat” Yu Sheng
The most iconic dish for Chinese New Year is the Yu Sheng. The shredded vegetables are crunchy and fresh while the smoked salmon encased in tomato jelly is soft and gelatinous. Coupled with the special spring onion and ginger dressing, it will leave you hungeIn-House more.
In House Roasted Organic Corn Fed Chicken with Crispy Garlic, Almond & Prawn Cracker
Marinated in five different spices before it is roasted, the skin of the chicken has a golden glow with a delightful crispiness.
Braised Five Spice Pork Knuckle
The smokiness of the bacon enters the pork knuckle wrapped within. Coupled with the mushrooms and a fluffy white mantou, this is an earthy dish that could prove to be popular with the elders.
Duo Way of Kelong Sea Bass
If you ever had trouble choosing between your favourite sauces – the Salted Egg Yolk sauce and the Singapore Chilli Crab sauce – this dish will resolve your dilemma. The fresh fish is served with both sauces, so you never have to choose.
8 Hours Braised Angus Beef Cheek in Crispy Yam Ring
The beef is so tender that it will melt at your first bite. And you will never have a yam ring as light and crispy as this one.
Drunken “Master” Tiger Prawn Linguine
In a seemingly oddball pairing, the linguine actually pairs well with the drunken prawn sauce as its thickness mops up all the seafood goodness. The kick of the spices makes this dish that much more addictive.
Sweetness of Great Harvest
The puree of sweet potato, pumpkin and yam is paired with the cool coconut milk and ice cream. The homemade glutinous rice ball adds a nutty pop to the dessert.
You may add on the Special Stuffed Whole Suckling Pig, for $588++.
Special Stuffed Whole Suckling Pig (Boneless)
A piglet stuffed with fragrant glutinous rice and roasted to perfection, finished with a drizzle of caramelised pineapple sauce!
The six and ten person CNY sets are priced at $288++ and $388++ respectively.
Valentine’s Day Pink & Blue Dinner
Besides the CNY feast, keep a lookout for LOCAL’s Valentine’s Day Special Pink & Blue 4 Course Dinner Menu, available on 13 and 14 February.
You’ll be served Crispy Idaho Potato Puff with Tobiko “Shrimp Roe”, Apple & Crab Salad, In-House Tea Smoked USA Duck and an Artisan Bread Basket & Butter for your amuse bouches.
Subsequently, you can choose between the Pink or Blue 4 course menu. The Pink menu, which has a lighter flavour, was created with females’ taste buds in mind. The Blue menu is created for a more masculine profile, although Executive Chef Elvin Chew did insist guests do not have to adhere strictly to conventions.
The Pink menu consists of the Spring Green Pea Puree Soup, Asian Spices Confit Norwegian Salmon, Slow Poached Chicken Breast, and for dessert, Strawberries & Lemon Mousse Dome.
The Blue menu has the Puree of Forest Wild Mushroom Soup, Pan Seared Singapore Kelong Sea Bass, 8 hours Sous Vide Angus Beef Cheek and for dessert, a Dark Chocolate Pudding.
Each course is $68++ per person with free flow of juices and soft drinks, and $118++ per person with free flow of sparkling wine, red and white wine, beer, juices and soft drinks.
