Hotels.com’s Mobile Travel Tracker conducted a poll in November 2017, and came to a conclusion on the latest travel brag on social media. Among 9,000 respondents across 30 countries, 300 Singaporean respondents were included.
The results show that Singaporean travellers spend most of their time on social media, travel apps and messaging apps when travelling.
On the other hand, travel braggers are busy taking photo snaps on food and uploading them to social media. They also like to brag about the places they’ve been to by taking snaps of scenic landscapes, cityscape, photos with loved ones. And not to mention, selfies too.
The study also reveals that over 80% of Singaporeans would choose to bring their smartphones to their favourite outfit when travelling. They are even more concerned when their phones run out of juice than missing a flight, arguing with their partner, or losing their wallets. This only proves that most travellers are more hooked on to social media than the actual travel experience.
The innovation in mobile technology has affected growth in the hospitality industry. The research identified 48% of Singaporean travellers booking hotels due to the convenience provided by travel apps on smartphones.
Mobile Travel Tracker Report has seen the true impact mobile has on the average person’s booking and travel behaviours. “At Hotels.com, we understand the importance of travelling with one’s smartphone – whether it’s capturing the most brag-worthy food flat lay for Instagram or making a last-minute hotel booking on the go,” said Daniel Craig, VP of Mobile at Hotels.com.
Craig also added that the research shows how a majority of Singaporeans prefer to find hotel discounts and deals instantly on their smartphones. He concluded: “With the Hotels.com mobile app, users will be able to access instant savings with Secret Prices across hundreds of thousands of properties around the globe, all with the simple click of a button.”
