Black Friday has evolved from American Thanksgiving to becoming the year’s most anticipated shopping extravaganza around the world.
In case you’re wondering how this year’s Black Friday shopping craze benefited the economy of countries, Picodi had the honour of proving that your participation resulted in a phenomenal record. Picodi shared their analysis based on their website traffic and internal data.
Black Friday displayed incredible records this year. Transactions in Singapore alone increased by 652%, ranking the Lion City #11 in the world. Picodi quoted that this staggering increase in Singapore’s e-commerce shopping is ‘unprecedented.’
Singapore falls behind Finland by 48%, while South Africa ranks as the top spender this year at an unbelievable 16,226% increase. Other Asian countries such as Vietnam and Malaysia also ranked Top 6 and 7 respectively.
Top Black Friday Shopping Destinations
According to Picodi’s analysis, Singaporeans spent mostly on fashion, electronics and books, with prices ranging from S$52 to S$96. Singapore’s top e-commerce shopping choices are Zalora, Lazada and FoodPanda, while Amazon and Nike shared the spotlight as top shopping destinations in other countries.
Amazing deals that averaged S$79 in savings enticed Singaporeans to grab this one-time opportunity. In total, Singapore saved $1.1M compared to regular pricing. Picodi cites this only proves that Singaporeans have ‘pure money-saving nature’ – no surprises there.
Black Friday truly is an anticipated shopping day in Singapore. The statistics are expected to increase in the following years.
