Those living in the west side of Singapore are in for a treat with a new seafood restaurant in town – Legacy Seafood, located at 10 Science Centre Road, behind Genting Hotel. The restaurant serves a wide array of fresh seafood, cooked in various zi-char style at reasonable prices.
To be precise, the restaurant is not entirely new. While the name is new, the owner, Michael Teo, previously operated Uncle Leong Seafood Jurong East and has since branched out on his own to launch Legacy Seafood. Uncle Leong is his brother-in-law.
Seafood lovers would be familiar with Uncle Leong Seafood, first founded in a neighbourhood coffeeshop in Ang Mo Kio, and famous for their signature “金沙蟹 Shimmering Sand Crab Delight”, fresh crab served in a mix of sweet and savoury, creamy buttery gravy with sprinkles of oat flakes and crunchy curry leaves:
In a short chat with Teo, he shared that the recipes and seafood dishes are generally the same as those served at Uncle Leong, with the additional of teppanyaki (Japanese hot plate) dishes which he finds are a favourite with Singaporean diners. On the name change, Teo mentioned he wanted to create a brand of his own to leave behind for his children.
I ate at Legacy Seafood a few weeks back with my family. The restaurant has only been in operation for a few months. The place looks no frills, clean and spacious. There is a sink for diners to wash hands after a messy seafood meal and customers get to select your own live crabs from a tank display.
The wait staff are attentive and prompt in service. Food is good and service is fast. Here are the dishes we sampled:
Verdict? Lip-smacking good!
The crabs are juicy and succulent, served in the cooking style you prefer. We ordered 3 crabs, with one and a half crab cooked in the claypot bee hoon style and shimmering sand style each. These were the star dishes for the night. The teppanyaki deer meat was pretty good too, so were the two stir-fried vegetable dishes which you can customise with your preferred style of cooking.
If you are intending to dine at Legacy Seafood, the most value-for-money option is their set menu, priced from just S$238 for a 7-course set meal that serves 5 to 6 pax up to S$828 for a 10-course set meal that serves 11 to 12 pax. All of the set meals come with at least one course of crab.
From the official website, they also cater to online delivery. For those who prefer to tuck into your favourite crab dishes in the comfort of your own home, you can consider ordering from their online menu.
