The durian season is just around the corner (hurry up already lah!) and nothing beats an evening of durian-mania with those who share the same appreciation for mighty fruit.
PARKROYAL on Pickering’s signature Lime Restaurant presents Thorny Temptations, a buffet extravaganza featuring durians as the headlining act, and one that will appeal to guests who like to boast of their unparalleled talent in durian eating, and others who are finally ready to taste the aromatic fruit for the very first time.
The durian aroma will make you weak at your knees and the great thing is that you won’t need to wait until dessert time to indulge in the thorny fruit as executive chef Eric Ong will tease you in with a selection of savoury dinner items infused with durian in various forms.
Begin with the Poached Tiger Prawn, Durian Mousse, Quinoa and Crunchy Vegetables Salad or Foie Gras Torchon with Torched Meringue and Durian Powder, before moving nicely on to a wide selection of durian themed main dishes.
Highlights include Durian Ravioli with Sage and Garlic Butter, and Grilled Chicken and Durian in Tortilla, while Gulai Fish Curry with Fermented Durian, and Prata with Durian and Gula Melaka are on offer for those who like Indian food.
If you’re up for some Asian spice, the must-haves include Butter Durian Prawn with Curry Leaves and Chilli Padi, and the Wok Fried Prawn and Petai with Sambal Durian.
Durian, in its rawest form, thorny shells and all, is best enjoyed the way they used to serve them back in the day.
Take a trip down memory lane and head to the specially demarcated area that is set up like a traditional durian stall where chefs will weld their knives and pop open the king of all fruits in all its glory, one durian at a time.
Remember, it is all you can eat so feel free to visit and revisit the stall again for the best D24 and Mao Shan Wang can offer.
Full already? There is more. Your night of savouring rich durian goodness will next take you to Lime’s dessert corner.
Sweet durian pastries such as the Pandan Crepes with Durian Mousse, Durian and Gula Melaka Gateau, and the Mini Durian Crumble will be awaiting your visit.
If you’re up for something a bit more old school, be sure to try the Chendol Durian, and Durian Pengat. Feeling extra sinful? Deep Fried Durian Ice Cream, which no one can resist, can end your night on a high.
Thorny Temptations’is available daily (except Monday) from 7 July to 2 September, between 6.30pm and 10.30pm. $88++ per adult inclusive of coffee and tea, and S58++ per child between 6 and 12 years old. Children aged 5 years old and below dine for free.
Best to note that the promotion’s end date might be brought forward to an earlier date due to the seasonal availability of the fruit.
